Job overview
Creative Secondary School (http://www.css.edu.hk) is a co-educational day school located in Hong Kong. The school began its operation in September 2006.
CSS is the first state-funded local school in Hong Kong to become an IB
World School. It was authorised in Feb 2009 to offer the IB Middle Years
Programme and in April 2010 to offer the IB Diploma (IBDP), alongside the
Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE). IBDP average score over the past 6 years is around 34-5 pts. Well over 90% of students continue to tertiary education. The school is proud of its value-added track record, given that it is open to students of all abilities and backgrounds, subject only to their ability to access the curriculum delivered through the medium of English.
We wish to appoint a Head of History for August 2019, to coordinate the
planning and delivery of senior form History as well as junior form
Individuals & Societies courses.
Background information about the CSS Individuals & Societies Faculty
The Faculty teaches MYP Individuals & Societies (I&S) to Forms 1-3 and
offers senior form History, Geography, Business, Economics and Environmental Systems and Societies electives to students in the senior forms (4-6). MYP and Form 4 classes have a maximum size of 25 students and Form 5-6 Diploma classes have a maximum size of 18, although they are usually somewhat smaller than this.
At present there are 14 teachers working within the I&S Faculty. All teachers in I&S are expected to teach the MYP and most will have Diploma-level teaching too. Typically, teachers will gain experience of both Diplomas during their time with the school. The IBDP and HKDSE classes are taught separately due to differences in syllabus content and assessment requirements, although the pedagogical approach to the two Diplomas is very similar, drawing heavily on extensive practical programmes and an inquiry-based approach. The team cultivates an ethos of working collaboratively and has succeeded in building a very supportive environment in which each individual is encouraged to share their expertise, identify their strengths and develop new capacity.
The Individuals & Societies Faculty actively encourages the pursuit of
learning outside of the classroom and engages in a number of
History-specific and faculty-wide experiential learning opportunities both
locally and internationally.

About Creative Secondary School
We share the same Invitational Education philosophy with our Kindergarten and Primary School, from whom most of our students come. We also warmly welcome students from other primary schools from all parts of Hong Kong.
We are currently the only school to implement the new Hong Kong Secondary Curriculum through the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. This excellent framework promotes inter-disciplinary, inquiry-based learning, a global outlook and strong communication skills. IB students are encouraged to actively serve their community, respect their environment and develop a set of values and capabilities - the IB Learner's Profile.
We are preparing our students for the challenges of the modern, increasingly globalised world while at the same time cultivating in them a passion for life, a confident sense of their own cultural identity, and a commitment to make the world a better place.
