Job overview

The Directors of the Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Company are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Head of History (Maternity Leave) for St. Benedict’s Catholic High School in Alcester. We can offer a warm and supportive school which values all who work and study here.

St Benedict's is a popular school of 700 pupils aged between 11 and 18 which offers all students the opportunities to succeed with a dedicated teaching and support team. The new leadership team along with the dedicated teaching staff are ambitious and aspirational for all pupils to meet their potential in school and beyond.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to further deepen individual subject knowledge in a supportive History team, whilst developing their practice as a professional. Induction for new colleagues is first rate, with significant support given to the development of teaching and learning, as well as a bespoke CPD programme. The current post-holder has additional responsibilities as a Head of Year, and this pastoral role could be an additional responsibility for the right candidate. That said, our first priority is for a Head of History.

You will be expected to deliver a broad, balanced, and inclusive curriculum in History including opportunities at GCSE and A level. The main attributes and skills expected from you will be:

• Monitor and support pupils’ progress and attainment across the History team

• Motivate and challenging all pupils to achieve their potential

• Have the ability to reflect and use analytical skills to provide practical experience in planning effective lessons and learning strategies.

• Have the ability to build solid relationships with our responsive and respectful pupils.

• Be supportive of the Catholic ethos and values of our school

St Benedict’s Catholic High School actively promotes a culture that helps safeguard children and young people and expects all who work here, or who aspire to work here, to share this commitment.

You will find that our school is a welcoming community where all are valued for the gifts they bring. I have only recently joined St Benedict’s but can testify as to the strengths of the school, our fabulous student body and the warmth of the welcome you receive from our dedicated teachers. This is an ideal time to be joining St Benedict’s and I would warmly welcome your application

The History department at St. Benedict's has enjoyed consistent examination success in recent years and has a high profile within the school and the wider community. The philosophy of the department stresses the need for each member to be part of a team and we encourage collaborative working; both within and across departments in our school. Decisions are reached collectively and resources and materials are developed by the whole team. St. Benedict's is a school which depends upon a high-minded, often altruistic, approach. A high level of commitment is demanded but the rewards, in terms of personal satisfaction, mutual understanding and academic achievement are great.

If you are looking to work at a school that strongly believe staff are their most important resource in guiding the next generation then please submit your application.

Ofsted report

“Students, staff and parents are, quite rightly, proud to be associated with this school. All groups of students make excellent progress, regardless of their background or ability level. Students’ attainment has been significantly above average over time, including in English and mathematics. Teaching is outstanding. Lesson activities are planned extremely well to ensure they are demanding and exciting.”
