Job overview

Claremont is a thriving independent day school in Surrey, currently undergoing a period of significant growth and development.  An exciting opportunity has arisen for a head of Human Resources (HR) to join the team, to build on what the school and HR department have already achieved to date.

This is a key role providing dynamic leadership across the whole school on site (Senior, Preparatory and Pre-Preparatory/Nursery). As well as providing operational oversight of a busy department, you will also be instrumental in helping to support and develop the school’s strategic plan and business objectives for the future.

We are looking for an outstanding and positive HR professional who is CIPD qualified and an experienced head of HR, ideally with experience in schools (or in a similarly complex and reactive commercial environment with the ability to adapt and quickly learn the nature of the independent education sector).  You should have proven experience of managing change and developing HR strategy.

We offer a competitive salary and all the benefits of working in a successful independent school including a generous contributory pension, life assurance scheme, discounted school fees, free lunches and onsite parking.

Further details can be found under the work with us tab on our website at www.claremontfancourt.co.uk.  Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to contact our dedicated recruitment adviser, David Stephens (07739 457000 or david@davidconsulting.co.uk) at the earliest opportunity to arrange an initial confidential discussion about the application process and/or their suitability for the role. Initial interviews are likely be held prior to the final closing date.

Closing date: Monday 28 February 2022 @ 9.00am

Claremont Fan Court School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Although the post is not pupil-facing, all staff at the school share responsibility for safeguarding and you will be required to undergo appropriate safeguarding training.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the school is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

About Claremont Fan Court School

We are a co-educational School, for children from 2½ to 18 years, situated just outside Esher, Surrey. The School is set in the historic landscaped grounds of the Claremont Estate.

Claremont Fan Court School was founded on a Christian ethos and we welcome children from all faiths and from none. We develop in our pupils the intellectual, cultural, physical and spiritual qualities that children must possess in their pursuit of excellence. Our ethos recognises, cares for, and values the potential of every pupil such that they can do more than they think is possible.

Vision and values

Character Education is at the heart of our educational programme at Claremont Fan Court School. Growth in right-thinking and acting opens the way to a more truthful and expansive way of looking at oneself and others, providing a new perspective on perceived limitations and capabilities. Claremont Fan Court School aims to recognise, care for and value the potential of every student, fostering their love of learning and supporting them to high academic achievement, as well as furthering their education in sporting and cultural activities.

We have developed a unique programme for teaching character. This programme focuses specifically on a set of core values and recognises that developing these requires a comprehensive educational approach. A new character quality is introduced each month. The quality is used within assemblies, discussions, activities and curriculum work.

Our extensive co-curricular programme, offering over 60 co-curricular opportunities, enables every pupil to experience activities beyond the classroom in order to tap broader interests and extend talents.

The ISI Report January 2017 noted that: ‘Pupils show pride in their achievements in curricular and co-curricular activities . . . Parents and pupils agreed that these opportunities enhance pupil achievement’.
