Head of Humanities + Geography Lead
Inner London Pay Scale + Additional Allowance AA1b £10,197
Required for September 2021

Could you be Greig City Academy’s next Head of Humanities? We are looking to appoint a dynamic and innovative teacher to lead our Humanities II Faculty. The successful candidate will be a Geography specialist who will also be managing the Geography Department. The post is for an excellent teacher who is well-qualified, experienced and able to enthuse both students and colleagues.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead an enthusiastic team in the Humanities II Faculty. The Faculty includes History, Geography, Psychology, Sociology and Politics/ Criminology, and Travel and Tourism. The successful candidate will have the drive, vision and ability to have an immediate impact on teaching and learning and raising attainment levels across all key stages. You will be able to quickly make your mark and experience genuine job satisfaction in a school that has a close-knit, friendly and supportive community.

As Geography Lead you will be managing a successful department: Geography is a thriving subject and is a popular choice at KS4 and KS5; uptake is increasing at GCSE and A level and students are enthusiastic about the subject. The successful candidate will believe passionately in the importance of fieldwork in Geography and have a proven track record of raising attainment and have a clear understanding of how to use data to track progress and plan intervention.

The school boasts a really positive and supportive relationship between managers and staff and between colleagues, and between staff and pupils. Paul Sutton, our Principal, encourages teachers to have an impact beyond their subject and he is always available and happy to discuss ideas with you as to how this can be achieved. Ours is a caring and well-ordered environment in which all students can enjoy learning, develop inquiring minds and acquire the skills and knowledge they need for a changing world. Every day we see the results of our efforts in students who work responsibly and with consideration for others – they are the best ambassadors for the school.

The personal development of all our staff is highly valued at GCA and we offer the opportunity to apply for our Learning Award of up to £2,400 per year for your continued professional development or other skills and talents. This is in addition to the school’s ongoing CPD programme. Other benefits staff can opt into include a cycle to work scheme and an interest-free annual season ticket loan.

GCA has a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and has safer recruitment procedures in place for the selection of staff. It is committed to the principle of equal opportunities; we welcome all applicants and value the diversity they bring.

Please download the application form via the school’s website and email your completed application to voxley@greigcityacademy.co.uk.

The closing date for receiving completed application forms is 3pm on Monday 24th May and interviews will be held later that week.

Please note that we reserve the right to close or extend this position depending on application numbers, therefore we would urge candidates to submit an application at their earliest opportunity.
