Job overview

The BOA Group is a Multi-Academy Trust of specialist academies located in Birmingham city centre, in the hub of the creative and digital industries. Though based in Birmingham, the academies recruit from across the wider Midlands region.

BOA Digital Technologies, a brand new 11-18 Free School, welcomed its first cohort of Year 7 students in September 2022. By September 2024 we will be full with children in year 7 through to 9. The school will continue to grown organically until we are an academy of 900 with 300 in the sixth form. Our vision is to offer a truly unique and distinctive education and provide a new model of teaching underpinned by digital skills and learning. Located in the heart of Birmingham’s growing technology and digital hub, close to industrial and academic partners, and with first-class facilities, BOA Digital is looking to meet the UK’s growing need for a high-class digital workforce.

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, confident and enthusiastic teacher to lead our humanities department. We already have a small but well-established team of humanities teachers but as the school expands, can now recruit an experienced teacher to lead the department.

The role will not only develop our current excellent curriculum, but look to frame and lead the development of geography, history and RE courses at GCSE and A Level. We would be excited to hear of your ideas of how to introduce these courses 'from scratch' and how they can match our ambition to deliver a curriculum of distinction.

You will encourage a climate of mutual support in which self-confidence and self-esteem can grow and an effective department team is established and nurtured. A full induction package and CPD opportunities are offered to help develop your teaching practice.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A strong track record as a teacher of a humanities subject, with a passion that is evident in their day-to-day classroom practice.
  • Qualified teacher status and a degree.
  • The ability to inspire high achievement in students from all backgrounds.
  • The ability to work in collaboration with other members of staff to develop and manage projects.
  • The ability to motivate and lead other teachers within the department
  • Exceptional personal organisation and time management skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • The ability to guide students’ academic, personal and professional development, as a tutor, in accordance with the academy’s guidelines and procedures.
  • An understanding of the key national and educational policies and issues.
  • Presence, enthusiasm, good sense of humour and approachability.
  • An excellent record of punctuality.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference to the future of education within a world class academy. If you share the academy’s vision and ambitions, possess a strong desire to work within an ethos of creative collaboration and partnership and want to have a positive impact on young people, families, and the community then we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Closing date for applications is 12pm on Wednesday 24th April 2024 at noon.

Interviews will be held w/b 29th April although suitable applicants may be invited for interview before the application process finishes.
