Job overview

Quite possibly the greatest opportunity of your career is awaiting you; the chance to design and shape innovative and creative pedagogical practice in a new all-through academy as our first head of humanities.

King’s Academy Binfield (KAB) and King’s Academy Oakwood are looking to appoint a highly motivated, dynamic and innovative department leader for humanities with an excellent track record, to play an intrinsic role in our new all-through academy in Bracknell Forest.

KAB opened in a superb building in September 2018 with 120 Year 7 students. In September 2019 a further 150 Year 7 students, along with year R and nursery students joined the academy. Also in September 2019, KAO, a brand new 1 FE primary school a mile away, opened with Year R and a mixed (for this year only) Year 1/2. KAB and KAO will continue to grow year on year to a roll of over 1800 students, aged 3-18. Both academies will be run cohesively sharing the same leadership, staff, values, curriculum, opportunities and expectations of excellence.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for the strategic leadership of humanities across both academies; ensuring outstanding teaching leads to outstanding outcomes. They will work in partnership with the Director of Communications within the wider Communications Faculty. Strong teachers of RE are especially welcome to apply, however all humanities specialisms will be considered for the right candidate. Applicants should be excellent classroom teachers and have the ability to motivate, inspire and lead staff and students to excel.  The successful candidate will show great leadership potential, will be a team player, will get stuck in and involve themselves in the wider aspects of academy life. A genuine commitment to our ‘whatever it takes’ ethos is essential to enable every young person at KAB and KAO to thrive.

As a new and rapidly growing school, this is a rare and exciting opportunity for a skilful leader who can bring creativity, innovation and dynamism across the academies. Potential is just as important as experience.

KAB and KAO are part of the King’s Group Academies MAT, led by a team of former and current Ofsted ‘outstanding’ head teachers and Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI).

King’s Education separately operates British schools abroad, educating over 4,000 students in countries such as Spain, Latvia and Panama, offering exciting opportunities for genuine international collaboration.

King’s Academy Binfield and King’s Academy Oakwood are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young students and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will need to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.

Our mission is to provide high quality education within a small community of outstanding schools in the UK that will deliver a transformative learning experience to all our students within the context of a global community of schools.

KGA has at its core the pursuit of the very highest standards both inside the classroom and beyond. We believe all students can exceed their expectations no matter what their prior attainment and experience. In a KGA academy no student will be labelled, we will treat them all as intelligent individuals. Through our ethos, our extended curriculum, our entrepreneurial approach and international dimension, we will ensure students develop into confident, rounded individuals, equipped for life in an ever changing world.

We pride ourselves on listening and responding to the needs of our partner schools and guarantee any school within KGA the opportunity to help shape the future development of our MAT. In a King’s Group Academy, pupils will be able to achieve their personal ambitions and academic goals, with the added advantage and motivation of working alongside peers from other King’s schools around the world.

At KGA our aim is to build clusters of excellence, blending the best of British education with the experience and success gained in our international King’s Group schools. We see staff as our most valuable resource and our innovative approach to CPD enables them to fulfil their career potential, as well as prepare our pupils for a successful future.

King’s Group was founded nearly 50 years ago by Sir Roger Fry and includes nine outstanding schools both abroad and in the UK. With this excellent foundation, King’s Group Academies has been invited by the DfE to develop a MAT and use the expertise of our team to build and provide ongoing support to small networks of outstanding academies.

We share a determination to make a positive difference to the future of our young people, their families and the wider community, as well as to the careers of our staff. This is your invitation to join us.
