Job overview

Principal: Mrs Andria Hanham
“Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow”

The Mandeville School is a popular school for students aged 11-18 with approximately 1000 students on roll. We are situated in a highly desirable location in Buckinghamshire in the Aylesbury Vale area with a wide range of available amenities. The thriving town of Aylesbury is surrounded by the rolling Chiltern Hills that is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. To complement the surrounding rural location, the school is well placed for commuting to London with an excellent rail service from Aylesbury itself, as well as other local rail stations. We are also well served by the M40 which directly links to Oxford.

The Mandeville School is on an exciting journey of improvement to becoming an outstanding school. Following a full inspection in November 2015, the school came out of ‘special measures’ having been there for several years and moved up into the ‘requires improvement’ category. Our monitoring inspection in May 2016 was a positive reflection of the work we had done in the months after the full inspection. With our sharp focus on continually improving teaching, learning and assessment we are confident that our school is an ideal environment where dedicated and ambitious colleagues can succeed professionally.

We have:

  • an enthusiastic, loyal and committed staff now driving improvement forward
  • respectful, hardworking students who are eager to succeed
  • an improving learning environment
  • a supportive community with significantly rising numbers for school places
  • a bespoke induction programme, excellent CPD and career progression opportunities.

In terms of facilities, we can boast a state of the art new building, up to date computing facilities and a brand new Sixth Form building - The William Harding Education Centre. Our sports resources are excellent and include a full size 3G pitch, a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), sports hall, a dance studio and fitness space.

As part of this process of continued improvement we are looking to appoint an outstanding and committed Head of Humanities to continue to lead the development of a humanities curriculum that is designed to enable every child to succeed. This will include co-ordinating a team of teachers who deliver our geography and history lessons and extra curricular provision.

You will be an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher of at least one humanities subject and have excellent leadership skills with the ability to lead our hardworking and dedicated team which includes two NQT colleagues. You must be highly organised, have excellent communication and time management skills, and be able to teach at least one humanities subject across the full ability range and, ideally, at all ages from Year 7 to 13. You will be looking to teach in a professional environment with a truly comprehensive intake.

The successful candidate will have high expectations of themselves, their colleagues and all students, as well as being committed to creating a stimulating learning environment that challenges all students to achieve their full potential. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of raising attainment in geography and/or history with a clear understanding of how to use data to track progress and plan intervention. This role would suit an ambitious leader who is keen to use this opportunity as a catalyst for further professional development.

Visits to the school are welcome or should you wish to discuss this role further please contact the Principal, Mrs Andria Hanham either by phone or email the Principal’s PA, Angela Cobb at angela.cobb@mandeville.bucks.sch.uk.

Please go to the vacancies page on the school’s website - www.mandeville.bucks.sch.uk - for further information about The Mandeville School and to get an application form for completion. Please complete and return your application form together with the supporting letter included in the form itself as requested to Angela Cobb, PA to the Principal as soon as possible but at the latest by noon on Wednesday 12th October 2016. Interviews will be held during the week beginning Monday 17th October. More information will be provided nearer the time about the day’s programme following shortlisting.

The Mandeville School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
