Head of Humanities
We are looking to appoint an excellent and dynamic Humanities practitioner as the Head of Humanities. The ideal candidate will have superb leadership skills to lead the successful and popular Humanities department.
The successful candidate will be a talented, innovative and forward-thinking History Teacher who can motivate and inspire pupils across the ability range at both Key Stage 3 and 4 within our forward-thinking Humanities Department. A proven track record in raising standards of attainment and achievement and a specialism of teaching History and/or RE is essential.
You will have a good track record of excellent classroom practice, be committed to high standards of learning and student progress, with the energy and vision to build on current progress and have ambitions for yourself and our school.
This is a full-time permanent position to start September 2023. A TLR2C worth £7368 for the Head of Faculty role is available for a History specialist as this TLR will also include the role of Head of History. A TLR2B would be available for a RE Specialist for the role of Head of Faculty role as a Head of RE is already employed.
The Department
The History and RE departments sit alongside Geography in the Humanities Faculty, under the leadership of the Head of Humanities who currently is also the Head of History. The faculty comprises of 7 members of staff that teach history and RE and 5 members of staff that teach Geography. Some are full time and some are part time. Some staff have additional leadership responsibilities across the school.
The successful candidate will enjoy teaching RE and History in a supportive and well-resourced department and must be prepared to contribute fully to departmental developments. This includes creating differentiated GCSE lesson and revision resources and to continue the development of the department curriculums linked to our recent Ofsted feedback. Other areas of focus are improving literacy, decreasing the DAP and gender gaps and essentially inspiring pupils through their love of the subjects.

Penryn College is a lively thriving college with an excellent reputation who cater for boys and girls aged between 11 and 16 years with a current number on roll of 1150 and we pride ourselves on offering the very best for our students.
In 2008 we moved into our £24 million pound new school building, which has a great range of resources, including an information rich environment, state of the art sporting facilities including a 6 badminton court size sports hall, the latest generation astro turf pitch and our own climbing wall.
Our College buildings and 10 acres of grounds are used extensively by the community for adult education courses, sporting activities, performances and fund raising activities. Our unique relationship with surrounding primary schools - known as the "Penryn Partnership" - helps primary children to settle in to the college whilst adjusting to their new environment.
In July 2011 we became an Academy. We are committed to maintaining all those things that staff, pupils and the community value about Penryn College.

About Penryn College
Penryn College is a co-educational secondary school for children aged 11-16 and primarily serves the population of Penryn town and the surrounding villages in Cornwall. The college was designated a Sports College in 1998; a Leading Edge school in 2004; and a high-performing specialist college in 2006. In July 2011, it became an Academy.
Penryn College’s original site was in Falmouth, where it opened in 1957. It moved to its present site in 1961 and has since benefitted from a programme of continuous development, culminating in 2008 in the opening of its £24m new College building.
The College was Cornwall's 'Building Schools for the Future' pathfinder, and raised an additional £1.4 million to provide community sports facilities.
A large range of activities run before school, during lunchtimes and after school. There is also a 'Schools on Saturday’ programme for students and members of the community to attend, with a host of sporting, creative and academic activities.
