Job Description:

Thames British School is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Humanities to lead teaching and learning in history, geography, business studies, economics, and social studies. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading and managing a team of teachers and a passion for delivering an engaging and challenging humanities curriculum that optimises student achievement.


Responsibilities:

  • Employ best practices as a teacher of history, social studies, geography, business studies or economics.
  • Lead and manage the humanities teachers, providing guidance, support, training, and appraisal.
  • Develop and deliver a high-quality and engaging humanities curriculum that meets the needs of all students, including gifted students and those with additional learning needs.
  • Facilitate high departmental planning, teaching, assessment and feedback standards.
  • Track student progress and attainment and respond to trends with appropriate interventions; optimise student achievement, especially examination cohorts.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the well-being and personal development of all students in the humanities.
  • Work closely with parents and carers to build positive relationships and ensure that they are informed and engaged in their child's learning journey in the humanities.
  • Collaborate with other leadership team members to ensure that the school is delivering the best possible education to our students in the humanities.
  • Support the managing director and HR department in interviewing candidates for history, geography, business Studies, economics, and social studies teaching positions. 
  • Ensure that the humanities team adheres to all relevant school policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations, safeguarding, and child protection.


Requirements:

  • Full teacher certification in the UK or the applicant’s native country for the relevant Humanities subject (i.e. Bachelor of Education, Degree and PGCE, QTS or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years’ experience in teaching humanities, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role in an international school setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
  • A keen understanding of and passion for the various humanities curricula.
  • Experience of delivering a broad and balanced humanities curriculum that meets the needs of all students, and an understanding of different teaching methodologies.
  • Familiarity with the Cambridge programme or an English-style national curriculum is essential; familiarity with the IBDP programme is desirable.
