Required for September 2018
We are seeking an excellent teacher who can share their enthusiasm and expertise with our success-hungry students and lead our dedicated team of Humanities teachers in their continued pursuit of excellence.
If you can combine va-va-voom in the classroom with relentless optimism in the staff room you will find the perfect home leading our young and vibrant Humanities Department at Shirebrook Academy. Specialists in history, geography or RE are equally welcome to apply. History, geography and RE are taught as discrete subjects at KS3 and are very popular options at KS4 with most students opting to take at least one of the Humanities GCSE courses.
Shirebrook Academy opened in September 2010 and in its first year became one of the most improved schools in Derbyshire. We were inspected in March 2013 and were graded as ‘outstanding’ in every category. We moved in to purpose built ‘State of the Art’ buildings in April 2013.
According to an African proverb, ‘it takes a whole village to raise a child’. Similarly, it takes a whole school to educate a child with everyone in the school community playing a vital role. Educating a child is a collective endeavour, at Shirebrook Academy we stand and fall as a team, we celebrate each other’s success and we take collective responsibility and support each other when we fail.
In May 2017 Shirebrook Academy joined ACET (Aston Community Education Trust) which further strengthened our capacity to improve opportunities for all our students and staff. This Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are also an equal opportunities Employer.

Shirebrook Academy opened its doors to students in September 2010. The Academy is a forward thinking innovative organisation at the heart of the community. We moved into purpose built, state of the art buildings in April 2013. In May 2017 we joined ACET (Aston Community Education Trust), a growing and successful Multi Academy Trust, which will enable us to continue our development with the support of a larger organisation.
According to an African proverb, ‘it takes a whole village to raise a child’. Similarly, it takes a whole school to educate a child with everyone in the school community playing a vital role. Educating a child is a collective endeavour, we stand and fall as a team, we celebrate each other’s success and we take collective responsibility and support each other when we fail. So, it doesn’t matter what your specific role is at Shirebrook Academy, your chief responsibility is to make sure that every student has the best possible experience of school and is able to be the best that they can be.
Professional Learning and developing staff to be future leaders is a key element of our work and fundamental to our success. Governors are committed to developing the leaders of the future and we are proud of the high number of staff who have gained promotion internally and externally.
