We are looking for an inspirational and innovative leader of humanities to take our faculty to the next level and to contribute to implementing the vision of holistic education at Fearnhill. The faculty is well established and successful, with a dedicated and experienced team.

The successful candidate will continue to raise standards, strengthen partnerships and ensure positive outcomes for all our students. As a senior middle leader, he or she will work closely with the senior leadership team on whole school improvement, with specific responsibility for growing our students’ sense of identity, belonging and British values across the school.

You will be:

  • An excellent classroom practitioner with an understanding of how children learn

  • Able to teach history to A Level

  • A team player with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Someone with a clear vision of the role of humanities in developing young people’s understanding of themselves and others


This is a superb opportunity for an ambitious teacher who wishes to develop their skills in preparation for a senior leadership role. Fearnhill is a very successful learning community and in 2016 was rated 9th out of Hertfordshire’s 76 secondary schools in terms of its ‘Progress 8’ score of +0.49. Ofsted recognised in June 2015 that “Attitudes to learning are positive. Students interact well with their teachers and the quality of relationships in the classroom is an important factor in the increased rate of academic progress seen across the school.”

Fearnhill School is a mixed, comprehensive secondary school with sixth form in Hertfordshire serving students from the age of 11-18. The secondary school, situated in Letchworth Garden City has approximately 520 students on roll.

Fearnhill School was built for Hertfordshire County Council and has facilities including a music suite, drama studio, nine fully-size teaching laboratories  and good IT provision. A sports centre is also on site, complete with a gymnasium and tennis courts.
