Job overview

Peter Symonds is located in Winchester. It is a vibrant sixth form college which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. Standards of music provision at the College are exceptionally high and the extra-curricular programme is outstanding. We have about 85 students studying A level Music and are home to the Hampshire Specialist Music Course, a gifted and talented programme which includes coaching in chamber music. Many of our students go on to study at the country’s most competitive conservatoires and universities.

We have a vacancy for a Head of Keyboard to join the team on a part time basis (up to 0.8 FTE) with the exact working days and times open to negotiation. They will certainly include some evening commitments. This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional pianist who is passionate about the keyboard repertoire but, above all, who delights in helping young people develop their skills and interests. Many of our students play to a very high level, including diploma standard. As well as working one to one, you will act as accompanist, organise concerts, coach chamber music ensembles and be involved in the activities programme.

For further information, please refer to the background information, job description and person specification for the role. You are also welcome to contact Rachel Platt, Head of Music, for an informal conversation on 01962 857578.

We would also advise you that posts advertised to start in September 2018 actually commence with student enrolment on Tuesday 28 August 2018. Teaching staff are required to work this week but should you have an existing commitment please make this clear on your application and we will honour it. Should you be unavailable for a September start then, for the exceptional candidate, we are able to consider a start in January 2019.

Closing date: 12 noon on Monday 4 June 2018

Interview date: Thursday 14 June 2018
