Job overview

Queen Ethelburga’s is a vibrant, 3-18, co-educational, independent foundation of four schools with approximately 1600 students on roll. Chapter House takes students from three months up to Year 5. King’s Magna takes students from Years 6-9, and the two senior schools, The College and the Faculty run in parallel covering Years 10-13.

A significant proportion of students are boarders and many are from overseas. The belief that education should develop individual potential is central to the foundation’s ethos. To enable this it strives to provide a wide range of opportunities, both academic and extra-curricular, that allows every child to achieve excellence in their chosen fields.

QE has an excellent reputation locally, nationally and internationally. This has been due partly to substantial investment, with students and staff now enjoying outstanding facilities, but, underpinning it, has been a dedication to high quality teaching and learning and improving academic results.

Queen Ethelburga’s is now seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to be the Head of King’s Magna. In September the school will have 350 children and it has a warm, family culture. Behaviour is excellent and the curriculum is broad.

As Head of King’s Magna you will:

  • Direct the King’s Magna Leadership team in creating a vibrant culture and curriculum where the emphasis is on achievement and joy of learning for students
  • Aspire to the highest possible academic outcomes for the students in the school and work closely with other relevant school teams to achieve this
  • Support the development of teaching and learning across the Collegiate, so that it continues to be of the highest standard and ensuring it is vibrant, energetic and creative
  • Oversee the smooth transition of students into the school and at key points

This is an outstanding opportunity and will require someone who:

  • Has successfully led teams as a senior or middle leader and who has made effective contributions to the strategic development of their current school
  • Has a can-do attitude who can develop a shared vision and lead, inspire and motivate others to achieve it
  • Is committed to providing a creative, diverse, relevant and inclusive curriculum
  • Has experience of working with students across the full ability range

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
