We are looking to appoint a Head of Languages and Director of Internationalism. The successful candidate will have a passion for leading teaching and learning and the curriculum, across the department, as well as taking the lead on our wide range of international programmes. The post holder will be required to teach a modern language at GCSE and A Level, and have a proven record of success supporting students to achieve the highest grades and to pursue careers in the subject.

Devonport High School for Girls is a highly successful and oversubscribed 11-18 a single-sex selective grammar school in the heart of Plymouth DHSG founded in 1908. Four form entry with approximately 830 students on roll of which there are 235 students in the sixth form. It is a Specialist Languages College and Leading Edge School with a tradition of high academic performance and is one of the highest performing schools in the South West of England. As a well-established British Council International School Award member it is passionate about global citizenship and international collaboration and has links and projects with schools from around the world. All students study at least one language from French, German, Spanish, Chinese or Latin in years 7-11.
Applications for entry in year 7-11 are made through Plymouth Local Authority and applications for the Sixth Form are made directly to the school.
DHSG has warm and friendly atmosphere creating an environment where all achievements are valued and students leave us as confident, adaptable and independent young women. We are experts in educating girls providing a style of teaching that stimulate and inspires girls to learn and feel comfortable. The school takes its pastoral responsibilities very seriously recognising that happiness is as important as academic achievement.
The school complies with National Curriculum requirements but is always looking at how it can adapt to change to provide the best curriculum for its students.
The school is situated on a pleasant site in the inner suburbs of the city of Plymouth, about two miles from the city centre. There are four brick built buildings including a new purpose built Mathematics and Psychology block, one modular building housing four language classrooms and two temporary huts.
Meals are cooked and served on site by school staff. The dining room seats approximately 250 students.
The majority a sixth form students are girls but a small number of boys are on roll and a number access course from across a consortium. The school works in collaboration with four other neighbouring schools within a consortium to provide choice beyond the traditional qualifications already offered in the Sixth Form. Pastoral care and academic mentoring is responsibility of the form tutor who refers to the appropriate Head of House or Head of Sixth Form.
Students in Years 7-11 wear a school uniform. Sixth formers dress in a neat and tidy manner wearing appropriate casual clothing.
The Senior Leadership Team comprises the Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher, three Assistant Head Teachers and a Business Manager. There are approximately 60 teachers (mixture of full and part-time) and 40 support staff (full and part-time).
