Job overview

Full-time, permanent

MPS/UPS TLR 1B £9 928

The Head of Languages at Beechen Cliff is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious, self-motivated teacher who has the drive and leadership skills to inspire an exceptional team of dedicated teachers.  The student body in this distinctive and traditional high achieving state-funded day and boarding school are predominantly able and motivated.   We need a Head of Languages starting 1st September 2020 with a commitment to excellence and a focus to develop a love for languages at all levels.  Beechen Cliff heads of faculty have a significant degree of autonomy and operate within the school’s ‘can-do’ culture – and as such the successful candidate will be encouraged to be creative, aspire to the unconventional and foster a ‘buzz’ both within and beyond the classroom.  In addition, the Head of Languages will have to demonstrate the ability to deliver outstanding academic results through the delivery of a high quality curriculum, a rigorous diagnosis of individual students’ strengths and weaknesses and the implementation of targeted intervention programmes.

The Languages results are strong and student uptake at GCSE and A Level is very good. The successful candidate will be expected to teach both French and a second language at KS3 and at least one language to GCSE and beyond including A level.  It will also be an advantage for applicants if they are able to teach more than one language to GCSE and A level.

The School has a vibrant extra-curricular life, which includes sport, music, drama, outdoor activities, debating and public speaking.  A willingness to contribute will be a clear advantage.

Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will need to undertake and enhanced disclosure via the Disclosure Barring Service along with relevant pre-employment checks, including checks with past employers.

Applications should be made by via the TES Quick Apply by noon on Monday 27th January 2020.  Interviews are currently planned to take place on Wednesday 5th February 2020.

About Beechen Cliff School

Beechen Cliff is a high achieving state day and boarding school for boys in Years 7-11 with a large, vibrant, academic mixed Sixth Form.

Our vision is to enable our pupils and students to achieve their aspirations and become well-rounded, confident and compassionate individuals who go on to live fulfilled lives and make a positive contribution to society.

We are committed to providing an exceptional, all-round education both in terms of high academic standards and an incredible range of extra-curricular opportunities.

We have high expectations of our pupils in terms of their learning, conduct and appearance and encourage all to take advantage of the opportunities available to them at school.

Our pastoral care is based around both a Year Group system and a House system. Pupils are placed in year based tutor groups within one of four Houses, which enables pupils to feel part of and contribute to their House community. We work incredibly hard to ensure our pupils are known, understood and feel both valued and supported in school.

Our pupils benefit from high quality teaching and pastoral care through working with a committed,  experienced and caring  team of staff, which leads to examination results above the national average and successful progression to the next stage of education.

We aim to develop character and an understanding of values with much of our work based around our Core Values of aspiration, compassion, independence and respect.

We are part of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership Trust and, within this, a member of the Bath Hub. Within the Bath Hub we work closely with Hayesfield Girls School and St Marks School with a common vision to ensure that pupils across the city achieve their personal best.
