Job overview

Serving a population of almost 150,000 in the heart of the North East, South Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council prides itself on providing excellent and efficient services to its most vulnerable residents. We are a forward thinking Council that is developing innovative approaches to meet our challenges. To further strengthen our position as an innovative, modernising authority we want to recruit senior officers to lead in the provision of innovative services for our children, young people and vulnerable adults.

You will need to provide strong and effective leadership, enabling staff to make the right decisions for our children and young people. This will involve an excellent understanding of the education system and innovative approaches to early help for vulnerable children and young people. You will need to bring about substantial changes in the way we meet the needs of children, and support them to fulfil their potential. This will need to be achieved within the context of the financial constraints all local authorities are now facing.

You will need to be suitably qualified and have a deep understanding of how to provide excellent learning and early help services, and the rigour and management grip to improve performance. You will also be a skilled relationship builder, working closely with Members, staff, partners and communities to ensure that everyone is engaged with the challenges that lie ahead.

This is a superb opportunity within an innovative and change-focused organisation to become the system leader for education services in South Tyneside.
