Job overview

We have a vacancy for a Head of Marketing and Communications, as the current post-holder leaves to take up a Director role. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic marketing professional to manage and direct the school’s external communications.

Reporting to the Headmaster, the successful candidate will be pivotal in telling our unique Colston’s story. This is a school in which staff feel privileged to work, whose aim for its pupils is for them to feel happy, allowing them to achieve great things. In November 2019 we were judged ‘Excellent in all areas’ by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, and have waiting lists at many entry points.

The Head of Marketing and Communications will build on the school’s strong brand and digital presence, and be front and centre in promoting Colston’s as the school of choice for Bristol and South Gloucestershire families. This role will lead the school in all aspects of marketing, PR and communications, and be responsible for ongoing strategic review and development.

You will ensure that the brand personality is consistent with the wider objectives of the school. You will have oversight of major school events, ensuring that the school is presented well to all key stakeholders. This role will further develop the school’s communication links with its alumni, as well as fostering excellent relationships with members of the Old Colstonian Society.

You will work closely with the Admissions team to monitor the effectiveness and results of marketing campaigns, and ensure maximum visibility to prospective families. As an ambassador for the school, you will be involved in creating a first-class visitor experience and will build strong rapport with a broad range of stakeholders.

Educated to degree level, or with equivalent professional marketing qualifications/experience, the successful candidate will be confident and articulate, possessing excellent communication skills, and with experience of working in a customer-focused environment.  This is an ideal position for an ambitious and motivated communications professional who can generate ideas and deliver results.

The salary for this role is NJC point 32-37 dependent on experience (£34,788-£39,782 FTE). The actual pro-rated salary represents up to 0.9 FTE. This involves a 37.5 hour working week, part-time across the year to include up to 6 weeks during school holidays. This further includes paid holiday and bank/public holidays. Applications for flexible working are encouraged.
