Head of Mathematics

Head of Mathematics

Clifton College - Upper School

Clifton College, Bristol

  • Expired
Job type:
Full Time, Permanent
Apply by:
24 January 2019

Job overview

We require a well-qualified graduate and experienced teacher to lead our Mathematics Department from September 2019. If convenient for all parties, an earlier start date may be agreed.

The successful candidate will be passionate about Mathematics as a subject in its own right, and also about teaching and learning both within the discipline and across the curriculum. They will be willing not only to contribute to the wider life of a busy boarding and day school, but also to set a good example in committing to other areas, given the prominent managerial position that will be held.

Clifton has an enviable record of success in Mathematics, the most popular A Level subject in the school, and given the large numbers of staff and students covered by the remit of this key position, here exists a rare opportunity to move into a flagship role at a prestigious independent school in the vibrant City of Bristol.

The Head of Mathematics also holds a seat on the Academic Planning Committee, the body that oversees all academic matters and continually considers development of related areas in the Upper School.

Closing date for applications is Thursday 24 January 2019

Interview date is Wednesday 30 January 2019

About Clifton College - Upper School

Clifton College leads the way as one of the best Public Boarding Schools in the country. We offer day places, flexi and full boarding places. Welcoming boys and girls from 2 to 18, Clifton becomes the school every pupil needs it to be, preparing them for life in the real world, not in a ‘bubble’. We are known for academic excellence, myriad opportunities, state of the art facilities, superb pastoral care and expert staff who deliver the very best learning and development. We provide a richly diverse and connected school environment, representative of the real world. Our pupils mature into individuals who are ambitious, open-minded and spirited.

Bristol businessman Dr John Percival, who championed the benefits of science, diversity and the education of women, founded Clifton College in 1862. The College has since fostered the talents of students including General Douglas Haig and Olympic hockey gold medallist Lily Owsley. The NSPCC had its first meeting on the school’s grounds.

Clifton College Upper School is housed in historical buildings, such as the Grade II-listed Percival Library, but it boasts state-of-the-art sporting facilities, including 24 tennis courts and an Olympic-standard hockey pitch.
