Tes are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Head of Mathematics on a full-time permanent basis from September 2021.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a large 11-18 comprehensive school with a thriving sixth form. It became part of a family of schools in September 2016 and in a recent Ofsted inspection were graded 'Good' and are still improving to become outstanding. With a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased attainment, achievement and social and emotional development, last year’s Progress 8 score put the school in the top 18% nationally.

The school are excited to share that they have a vacancy for a dynamic, forward thinking head of department to join their academy. They are looking for an inspiring and energetic leader with a real passion for Mathematics. You will be a motivated, enthusiastic and a driven individual who has the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of students and share their single goal of ‘Students First’. The academy are seeking outstanding candidates with strong leadership and ability to challenge individuals and provide effective support to colleagues which will enable the organisation to achieve the best possible outcomes for all students.

Some Key Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with academy policies, under the direction of the Principal
  • Communicating clear purpose and vision to the Department/Faculty
  • Contributing to the strategic development of the academy by implementing whole academy new initiatives, monitoring and reporting on key outcomes, to ensure the Department/Faculty meets academic targets as well as meeting the requirements of Every Child Matters
  • Providing clear, cohesive leadership and direction in Department/Faculty and motivating teaching and support colleagues in developing innovative strategies to enhance the quality of learning, teaching and achievement
  • Promoting the achievement of high standards through effective teaching and learning within subjects area(s), preparation, evaluation and action planning
  • Modelling the vision and values of the Academy

The Successful Candidate:

  • A degree in a relevant subject
  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status
  • Good understanding of your subject secondary curriculum, Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5
  • Knowledge of current issues facing subject departments 
  • Experience of leading or supporting leadership of a department or providing support to a school/department
  • Successful experience of teaching at all key stages 
  • Evidence of managing and leading a new initiative across a department or whole school
  • An outstanding classroom practitioner with a clear direction and vision for teaching and promoting the subject across the academy
