Interviews week beginning 19th June 2023

We are a very successful, oversubscribed, vibrant and happy 11-16 secondary school, where relationships are strong, serving the market town of Church Stretton and the immediate area. Being a smaller rural school, we get to know our students and their families well. We are part of TrustEd CSAT Alliance, a local Multi Academy Trust, currently consisting of 5 secondary schools and four primary schools which work closely together with significant benefits for our students and staff.

We are looking to recruit a new Head of Mathematics. Ideally, candidates will have led an area of responsibility within Maths and be ready for a wider role. You will have strong classroom management skills, excellent subject knowledge, and the ability to lead the department to outstanding standards.

This is an exciting opportunity to be joining our school on our journey to provide an outstanding, inspirational and challenging education for all students. Our students only get one chance! As a result, we have a relentless focus to ensure that they get access to the best possible teaching and breadth of experiences to prepare them as responsible, well rounded members of society.

The department benefits from excellent facilities with well-resourced teaching spaces, along with a dedicated Maths Department office. All teaching rooms have the latest touch screen boards.

The appointment is subject to satisfactory pre-employment clearances including references, medical clearance, and an enhanced DBS Disclosure under the “Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974”. Further details regarding this check are available by visiting www.dbs.gov.uk. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. “The ability to communicate at ease with stakeholders and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.”

Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a self-declaration of their criminal record or any information that would make them unsuitable to work with children, so that they have the opportunity to share relevant information and discuss it at interview stage. We will also carry out an online search on shortlisted candidates to help identify any incidents or issues that are publicly available online.

Please email your completed application form to admin@csschool.co.uk, addressing your covering letter (2 sides of A4 maximum) outlining why you feel that you have the skills, experience and how you would lead the department to deliver outstanding standards for our students, to Mr John Parr, Headteacher.

If you would like to visit the school, please contact Miss Julia Morgan, PA to the Headteacher. Telephone 01694 722209 or email admin@csschool.co.uk.

We would encourage you to visit in advance of your application so you can see first-hand our friendly staff and students.

Values and vision

Church Stretton School is committed to providing first-rate educational opportunities, regardless of student background or ability, for the community it serves. The secondary school offers a curriculum that matches need and raises aspirations, using the best learning methods. Teachers hope pupils will enjoy their time at school through the pleasure of learning and discovery.

While students’ academic performance is strong, encouragement of participation in extra-curricular opportunities is considered to be of equal importance, with Church Stretton School offering a wide range of activities. From the Duke of Edinburgh Award to work in the arts, music and sport, along with local and international visits, the activity programme is rich and varied.

Ofsted report

“Teaching is now judged by you as good or outstanding as a result of rigorous monitoring and effective professional development.  School leaders have high expectations, which the school community is determined to meet. Middle leaders play an increased role in monitoring teaching, learning and assessment and they are accountable for performance in their areas of responsibility. As a result of these and other improvements, most current pupils in most subjects at both key stages are making good progress.   Poor behaviour is rare.  ”
