Head of Maths/Engineering

Required for September 2017, an experienced and well-qualified teacher able to lead and develop both the Mathematics and Physics Departments. The Head of Engineering is a newly created post.  The Head of Engineering will be an inspirational man/woman who will be able to promote Engineering as a career/university course. The successful candidate will have taught Mathematics and/or Physics to A-level/GCSE and preferably at Head of Department level. The teaching programme can be tailor-made to suit the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

The College currently has 150 students on roll (approximately 110 in the sixth form). The College is a member of ISA and is inspected by ISI. The recent successful Compliance Report is available on the ISI website. The College is expanding and this is an exciting time to join the staff.

The College offers an attractive salary package for this position which includes the Teacher’s Pension Scheme. The salary package, including pension benefits, will not be less than £45,000.

The Science Department currently comprises Heads of Biology, Chemistry and Physics and five other members of staff; the Head of Biology is currently also the Head of Science. There are three well-equipped laboratories. The Head of Physics role will be taken over by the Head of Engineering who will oversee both the teaching of Mathematics and Physics in the College. Currently there are three teachers of Mathematics in the School.

Full time teachers are expected to enter into the full life of the School. The successful candidate will also take on the role of Personal Tutor and become responsible for a group/form of students. Classes run from 8.50am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday. Staff are expected to be in College for 38 hours per week, of which 25 hours are contact time/teaching time. Most lessons are of 80 minutes duration to allow for practical sessions – this equates to 19x80 minute lessons. The Head of Engineering will be eligible for a reduction in teaching, equivalent to 2x80 minute lessons in recognition of the administrative tasks involved in this senior role.
