Job overview

We are looking for an engaging, ambitious, innovative and reflective candidate; a brilliant communicator with a fascination for all things Maths! You’ll require a sophisticated skill set, nerves of steel, as well as plenty of guile, gumption and gusto!

The successful candidate will have enthusiasm for Prep School teaching and be able to provide the necessary skills to enable pupils to make the most of their opportunities.

Since our 2018 ISI inspection, our teaching of Maths has rocketed from excellent to remarkable! With a team of committed and talented staff, equipped with a wide array of practical resources, including dedicated space and tools for outdoor Maths, our Maths curriculum reflects attention to detail, TLC, creativity, nurture and empowerment. We follow the White Rose Maths scheme, Number Zoo and the Common Entrance syllabus, to ensure all our children get to grips with key mathematical concepts.  Ranging from counting on our fingers in our nurseries, to GCSE level Maths for our scholars, the team has a relentless determination to give all pupils access to the beauty and power of this critical subject.

Pennthorpe is a co-educational independent preparatory day school located in the village of Rudgwick, along the Surrey/Sussex border, for children ages 2 to 13 years. Pennthorpe sits within a beautiful 25-acre site with extensive facilities and 16 acres of luscious woodland.

Pennthorpe is renowned for an innovative curriculum, exceptional pastoral care, immaculate, child-friendly campus and exceptional record for Scholarships and Common Entrance results. “Non nobis solum nati” is Pennthorpe’s official motto: “Born not for ourselves alone”. The ‘Pennthorpe Purpose’ relays the importance of positive contribution to the lives, and for the benefit, of others - not just to serve our own intentions. The children enjoy the most compelling educational experience possible; to nurture their positivity, tolerance, resilience and collaboration; and to prepare them to pursue their individual aspirations and contribute to the world.

Whether it’s academic achievement, consideration and kindness towards others, or an energetic and positive attitude – excellence underpins all that we do at Pennthorpe, and all that we strive to be together. Pennthorpe has been successfully preparing children for a variety of public senior schools since 1930.
