At Abbeyfield School we need a Head of Department who can make Modern Foreign Language provision a key part of our school. To achieve this the Governors are seeking to make the appointment of a talented and enthusiastic Head of Modern Foreign Languages to lead and develop a strong team of committed and hard-working teachers who are passionate about their subject and the importance of languages. As a Head of Department you will be well supported by a team of dynamic Middle Leaders as well as our strong Senior Leadership Team.

This is an exciting time to join Abbeyfield School: under the outstanding and dynamic Leadership Team, the school is moving from strength to strength. Our Ofsted in March 2017 described us as a ‘flourishing’ school with outstanding leadership and management and pupil behaviour. As a result, both the leaders and students are looking for high calibre teachers who are committed to delivering outstanding teaching and learning opportunities for all.

We currently offer French and German from KS3 to KS5 and also offer Spanish at KS4. From September 2018 we are looking to introduce Spanish into KS3 and in time also hope to offer it at KS5.

If you:

  • are a dynamic and motivated leader
  • inspire staff and students
  • can use data effectively to inform planning and improve students’ performance
  • have a proven track record of excellent results at KS3, 4 and 5
  • want to ensure every student can receive an outstanding education
  • have high expectations of staff and students
  • want to be the very best leader possible
  • have a passion for Spanish and bring expertise in another language
  • can raise attainment and grow and develop a department through outstanding leadership
  • are willing to be involved in and develop the extra-curricular MFL activities at the school

then we would love to hear from you.

The successful applicant will have the exciting opportunity to work within a highly motivated team who are fully committed to developing staff to fulfil their potential.

All our staff receive professional CPD opportunities much of which draws on our links with the North Wiltshire Schools Teaching Alliance and Challenge Partner links.

Values and vision

Abbeyfield School wants students to achieve their potential in a welcoming and inspiring learning environment. It follows four core values: innovation, determination, integrity and drive. The well-being of pupils is essential to the school and it is committed to ensuring that all students thrive as self-assured and confident young adults. Abbeyfield School offers a range of extra-curricular activities for pupils to get involved in, ranging from sports to music lessons, enabling them to pursue their hobbies and interests and nurture talents.

Ofsted

“Teachers generally adapt tasks well to match students’ capabilities. For example, in an outstanding Year 11 history lesson on developing a radio broadcast about the Coventry Blitz, lower-attaining students in a mixed-ability class were able to play a full part in a challenging activity because materials had been tailored to suit their needs. Through such effective teaching, students known to be eligible for the pupil premium, disabled students and those with special educational needs are closing the gap in progress with other groups”.
