Job overview

A rare opportunity has arisen to lead the music department of a school with both an excellent musical tradition and ambition for further growth.

Music teaching at LHPA is excellent” (Ofsted, 2016)

“117 exam passes in one academic school year is an incredible achievement. This puts you in the top 0.06% of applicants amongst all UK applicants on our system for 2016 under this criterion. The fact that you are a single state school makes this accomplishment even more impressive.” (ABRSM, 2017)

"Your children were just impeccably behaved and seeing and hearing them sing with such commitment was really quite moving." (Richard Pinel, Director of Music, Jesus College, Cambridge)

Langley Hall Primary Academy opened in September 2011 under the government’s free school initiative. Our school motto ‘Ad Vitam Paramus’ means ‘we are preparing for life’ and we fully embrace the belief that children learn best in an environment where they are happy, challenged, motivated and nurtured. The School has high aspirations for pupil progress achievement and behaviour. Our supporting caring ethos nurtures the development of both children and staff. We have 728 children across two sites in Langley, conveniently close to Langley station on the Paddington mainline.

As part of a broader performing arts focus, including dance and drama, all children learn to play the violin in Years 1-3 and every child continues to learn at least one musical instrument until they leave at the end of Year 6, with many children learning two or three instruments. LHPA’s strength in music has been recognised by Governors, staff and parents, by the Slough Music Hub, across the local community in Langley, Slough and Windsor and in national media, including mention in the Sunday Express and on BBC Radio 4. Ofsted (2016) described music teaching at LHPA as “excellent” and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (2017) were “not aware of any other state primary school in the country with as much examination success as LHPA”.

We are seeking a Head of Music to join our teaching and management team:
