Start date: August 2018
Contract type: Full Time
Salary: Undisclosed
Contract term: Fixed Term

We have a fantastic opportunity for an inspirational teacher to lead the excellent Music department at our growing school in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

About the School

British International School of Ljubljana (BISL) (http://www.britishschool.si/) is a growing British-style school serving students from over 30 nationalities in the capital of beautiful Slovenia, Europe’s “hidden jewel”. Classes are small and the students are eager to learn. BISL is an accredited member of COBIS and was most recently inspected in 2017 to successfully secure British Schools Overseas status.

BISL is part of the Orbital Education group, a growing family of international schools providing a British Education to an internationally diverse student population.  In addition to our school in Ljubljana, the Orbital group have schools in Spain, Hungary, China, Russia, Ecuador and the Middle East, and there are exciting plans to develop schools in new regions across the globe. As part of the Orbital group, our staff have the opportunity to work and collaborate with colleagues around the world, supporting them to achieve excellent outcomes and enabling their students to achieve their potential.  After two years’ successful employment, staff also have the opportunity to be considered for roles at other schools within the group, giving them the opportunity to see the world at the same time as progressing in your career.

About the Role

Originally founded by a Music teacher, music and performance lie at the core of life at BISL, both within the curriculum and through our hugely popular after-hours British International Music School (BIMS). Our Music Teachers are responsible for inspiring and enthusing students from 3 to 18 in their development of musical skills, with regular performances from all students as soloists, bands and class groups. Individuals and bands have won awards at local and international events, and a number of students carry forward their academic study to IGCSE and A-Level examinations.

Applicants must have a relevant degree, teaching qualification and experience of teaching Music across the phases of the National Curriculum, and particularly from Key Stage 3 to GCSE/IGCSE and GCE A-Level. Experience of working with EAL learners from a variety of cultures will be an advantage. Applicants should also be prepared to make a significant contribution to the wider community aspect of school life.

The successful applicant will be an outstanding musician and classroom practitioner, able to demonstrate a proven commitment to high standards of teaching and learning and of student achievement; someone with drive and passion who believes in creating a unique, inspiring and outstanding place for learning, able to excite and challenge students of all abilities to participate fully and make great progress.

Applications from fluent speakers of English will be preferred. Because of difficulties in obtaining a visa and residency, it may not be possible to consider applicants from nationalities outside of the UK and Europe.

Applications should include a covering letter addressed to the Principal, Mr. K. Wilkinson, along with an up-to-date curriculum vitae, photograph and details of three referees, one of whom should be the current or most recent employer.

Applications should be sent, as one combined PDF document, by e-mail with “MUSIC2018” in the subject field to vacancies@britishschool.si and to music.2018.ljubljana@orbital.education.

Closing date for applications is 15 June 2018. However, we anticipate a large number of applications for this post and the school reserves the right to appoint before this deadline once the right candidate is found.

British International School of Ljubljana is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post-holders are subject to satisfactory enhanced DBS check, International Child Protection Certificate or Criminal Records (Police Check) disclosure from their most recent countries of residence.
