Lagos Preparatory School (LPS) is a private co-educational day school in the affluent Ikoyi suburb of Lagos , Nigeria. The school follows the UK National Curriculum and was established in 2002. The school provides primary and middle school education for children 450 children up to age 12+.

Lagos Preparatory School is the most highly accredited school in Africa and is a member of IAPS, COBIS, ASIA, APEN & AISEN. Lagos Prep was the first school to be awarded the Every Child Matters Standards Award. (ECM)

This is a high profile role actively promoting our dynamic music department within the school and establishing connections with the outside community. We are seeking an individual who will inspire our students to enjoy their music and relish the opportunity to demonstrate the children’s progress with musical and orchestral performances. The successful candidate will be a talented and accomplished musician who can communicate to young people a passionate enthusiasm for the subject extending well beyond the classroom. Key objectives will be to provide interesting and imaginative schemes of work, co-ordinate the appointments of visiting music teachers and to be fully involved in all school performances, including weekly assemblies. The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate clear evidence of promoting and developing music across the 2-13 age group and be able to play the piano to a high standard. The ability to play further instruments will be deemed an advantage. LPS students aspire to the leading UK Independent schools and the applicant must evidence a proven record to prepare our students for their future schools.

The successful candidate will have:

  • a good degree in Music and a PGCE qualification
  • an outstanding knowledge and understanding of their subject
  • experience in preparing students for music examinations.
  • the ability to manage a department of well qualified teachers
  • proven leadership skills
  • experience in cross curricular project work

About Lagos Preparatory & High School

Our school provides day facilities for boys and girls aged 18 months to 13 years who are taught the requirements of the English National Curriculum, with some emphasis on Nigerian social studies.

The school is equipped to a high standard providing all the facilities needed to teach the full curriculum.:

The school has a comprehensive reading scheme, an up to date library and an excellent range of resources, both text and photocopy based, which are used to carefully match the needs and ages of the children.

All the classrooms are bright and stimulating

ASSESSMENT & REPORTING

The performance of the children is monitored carefully and targets for improvement are set regularly.
Parents receive two formal reports a year – amid-year progress report with targets, and an end of the year summary report.

In addition, a brief monthly report is sent out giving marks of tests in english and maths and an indication of progress in reading.

Our school is registered with the Department for Education and Skills in UK and at the end of Key Stage One and Key Stage 2 our children take the SAT tests mandated by them.

Our children take these tests at the same time as in England where they are marked and moderated by them.
