We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, inspiring, committed and well qualified Head of Music. Required for January or sooner if available we wish to appoint a teacher of Music to lead this well-established department and contribute to its excellent results at all levels. The successful candidate should be able to teach music to pupils of all age an ability. Music is taught to pupils in our Prep school all the way through to KS5. The post holder will be expected to take part in the future development of the subject both within the curriculum and within the wider school community. 

Saint Felix School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school for children aged from 2 – 18, located close to the glorious seaside town of Southwold on the Suffolk coast. Our aim is to develop well-rounded students with the skills and the personality to make a success of their lives during and after their school years.

We are looking for a talented and inspirational musician to provide clear guidance, leadership and overall management of the Music Department, ensuring the delivery of high standards of teaching and the curriculum is managed and developed in accordance with school policy. 

The main responsibilities will be;

  • To monitor and review the quality of teaching within the Department, providing guidance and support as necessary 
  • Ensure the whole school Music curriculum covers the full range of appropriate and relevant knowledge, understanding and skills enabling all pupils to succeed 
  • Evaluate and develop the department to ensure effective progression and success in public examinations
  • To lead the provision of a rich and varied programme of extra-curricular music, managing the music staff and peripatetic staff 
  • To ensure a successful annual programme of music and performances, working with the Head of Drama, to encourage excellence and participation in concerts, performances, activities and trips. These include annual carol concerts, House Shout and other productions • To be responsible for all aspects of peripatetic music lessons and provision 
  • To be responsible for participation and excellence in choir, orchestra, bands and ensembles 
  • To analyse attainment data of students, identifying areas for improvement and implementing intervention programmes as appropriate

About Saint Felix School

Saint Felix, Southwold has been providing educational excellence for 120 years. A co-educational independent school for boarders and day pupils from the ages of 2 to 18.

Boarding at Saint Felix caters for full, weekly and flexi-boarders between the ages of 9-18 in three boarding houses situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Suffolk coast.
