Loretto School is one of Britain’s leading  independent boarding and day schools located on the outskirts of Edinburgh and we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Outdoor Education Specialist to help us deliver an extensive programme of outdoor learning activities and expeditions at the School.

Outdoor pursuits have been an integral part of the Loretto offering for many years and we are now looking to recruit an enthusiastic and passionate specialist to build upon this success. The successful candidate will be committed to providing quality outdoor learning as well as creating an engaging and inspiring experience for our pupils.

The successful candidate will lead all aspects of outdoor and adventurous education at Loretto including: Outdoor Pursuits Programme; Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme; Naval section of the Combined Cadet Force* and Expeditions to the Highlands and abroad.

*Qualifications to serve in the CCF would be advantageous but training can be provided.

The Outdoor Pursuits Programme will be shaped by the successful candidate and will reflect his or her interests and specialisms.  We anticipate this will include the ability and the necessary qualifications to offer a broad range of activities including summer and winter mountain walking, rock climbing, kayaking and sailing but other specialisms will be considered. As this role will also be responsible for our Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, we are looking for a Gold Level DofE Supervisor and Assessor.

Salary will be determined by experience and aptitude for the role.

Interview procedure

The School is currently closed to visitors due to COVID-19 restrictions and therefore the selection process will be undertaken, at least in part, virtually.

First interviews will be scheduled for the week commencing 17th May 2021.
