Job overview

Head of Performance and Creative Arts – required for August 2021

The Creative Arts are a vital and thriving part of the life of Discovery Bay International School.

Music students are encouraged and supported in the development of performance skills, musical understanding and a lifelong love of music. Art and Drama are popular subjects and students are able to take advantage of a range of performance opportunities throughout all phases of the school. A popular peripatetic programme further extends our students' Creative Arts interests.

There are three dedicated Music classrooms across the campuses in addition to various practice rooms. Facilities are well resourced with students having access to a wide range of instruments as well as iMac computers installed with music composition and editing software.  There are two well-equipped Art Rooms and a Drama studio and a performance hall with professional lighting and sound.

Musical performance opportunities ranged from formal concerts and the annual Carols on the Pitch performance to the recent DBIS Live series. A Secondary Production and a number of Year Group shows throughout the year culminate in Creative Arts Week in the summer term.

Students and teachers also have the opportunity to attend overseas performance trips and collaborative workshops with other FOBISIA schools around South East Asia.

Beyond the curriculum, there are many opportunities for participation in extracurricular activities, such as Orchestra, Wind Band, Chamber Ensemble, Primary and Secondary Choirs, Chinese Drumming Group and Rock Bands and there are a variety of Art Clubs and Drama Clubs across the different phases of the school.

We seek to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and successful full-time Head of Creative Arts who is willing to commit to working in a stimulating and dynamic international educational environment.

The successful applicant will be a fully qualified and experienced Music Teacher. The applicant is asked to state any other subject strengths. The applicant must also have a Degree in Education or equivalent postgraduate qualification as well as recent proven experience.

Experience of teaching A-Level Music or equivalent is desirable.

Successful candidates will receive a competitive compensation package; the post includes cash, professional development allowances, a gratuity of 18.75%, full remuneration of school fees for one child per family, and medical and dental insurance for the employee.

Interviews will be conducted in Hong Kong and via Skype.
