You will work closely with the Principals of our 3 Schools and our Head of Residences to provide a high quality Performing Arts offer both within our local and International curriculums as well as co-curricular activities.

Head of Performing Arts Faculty Job Description and Person Specification

Reports to School Director
Works closely with  Principal CBSE, Principal PYP/MYP, Principal IBDP/IGSE, Professional and Curriculum Development

Line Manages Music, Visual Arts, Dance, Drama

Job Purpose

  • To provide strong leadership to the Performing Arts Faculty so that teaching and learning is consistently good or better
  • To develop an innovative and progressive curriculum in Performing Arts  which is supported by a vibrant programme of co-curricular and enrichment activities
  • To performance manage robustly all leaders, teachers and support staff in the Performing Arts Faculty to provide a vibrant engaging programme for all Scholars
  • To further develop the Faculties provision in line with the School Improvement Plan

 

Key Responsibilities

  • To lead the successful delivery of Performing Arts across the School
  • To inspire and enthuse members of the team, with a clear vision for the future direction of the Performing Arts Faculty
  • To develop an innovative and progressive curriculum in Performing Arts
  • Maximise and promote the use of the new Performing Arts building
  • To safeguard young people by ensuring that all aspects of Health and Safety are adhered to in lessons and preparation areas
  • To keep up-to-date about subject development and to take part in relevant CPD and  disseminating to other staff where appropriate
  • To lead the Faculty’s strategic planning and self-evaluation processes and contribute to the School Improvement Plan
  • To promote and lead on the delivery of all extra-curricular activities in Performing Arts
  • To act as a role model to others, demonstrating high standards of professionalism in all aspects of leadership including adherence to school policies
  • To co-ordinate the resources of the Faculty, giving support and guidance to relevant staff
  • To complete all administrative tasks in a timely and accurate manner
  • To ensure that appropriate arrangements are made for examination entries and statutory requirements as per all boards
  • To contribute to wider whole school policy making
  • To design an appropriate and progressive curriculum in Performing Arts that reflects the ethos of the School and meets the needs of all students
  • To make sure that teaching and learning meets the needs of all students including those with additional needs, for example those with a low skill base, hearing or visual impairment and the very able
  • To oversee the Faculty’s budget
  • To ensure that the use of financial resources has a clear impact on improving student outcomes
  • To adopt a strong, caring and flexible leadership style as to influence and motivate staff and students to achieve their objectives and those of the School
  • To work proactively with the Senior Leadership Team to create an open, valuable working relationship that thrives on using the knowledge and expertise of individuals and groups to produce optimal outcomes for all stakeholders
  • To advise the Senior Leadership Team about the recruitment and retention of high-calibre candidates
  • To assist the SLT  to create and implement ways of actively involving parents and carers in the learning process
  • To network with other schools schools both locally, pan India and Internationally to share best practice
  • To facilitate a broad range of activities in conjunction with staff, students and the wider community so as to deepen and broaden learners’ experiences in Performing Arts


Person Specification

  1. Bachelor of Arts or Education in a relevant subject – essential
  2. Recognized Qualified Teacher Status - essential
  3. Capacity to teach Drama regardless of first subject – desirable
  4. Masters of Arts of higher - desirable
  5. 5 plus years teaching experience – desirable
  6. 2 plus years’ experience as a Head of Department – essential
  7. To have led or coordinated 2 or more subject areas – desirable
  8. Experience of teaching overseas and IB or IGCSE– essential
  9. Knowledge of CBSE or the capacity to famililarise quickly – essential
  10. Experience of boarding schools – desirable
  11. Growth mindset and the capacity to develop this in others  - essential
  12. Sense of humour and adventure - essential
  13. 3 checkable references including most recent employer – essential
