Job overview

This is a hugely exciting time to join Moon Hall with this is a newly created role.

We are a specialist school for pupils with Dyslexia. Our GCSE results speak for themselves- above national average in English, Maths and overall pass rate despite our pupils difficulties, at times, with the academic aspect of school.

The school has seen huge success over recent years and is the shining example of how the right interventions and support can ensure that a child can reach their full potential.

Around 1 in 10 are suspected to have dyslexia and with many choosing to opt for a career in the Arts, it is anticipated that as many as 40% of people studying the Arts in Higher Education have dyslexia. These statistics make the role of leading in Performing Arts even more exciting and important.

The Drama department has had huge successes in recent years through its productions and GCSE results and by creating the Performing Arts role we are looking to bring in a leader who will continue this hard work and  pull each of the strands of performance together.

Moon Hall School Reigate is a Mainstream Dyslexia Specialist school. We begin at year 3 and our oldest pupils leave in year 11.

We give our pupils the opportunity to access the mainstream curriculum and to close the gap between current attainment and what they should be achieving. Through appropriate curricular provision we respect the fact that pupils require different strategies for learning, acquire, assimilate and communicate information at different rates and need a range of teaching approaches and experiences.

Our aim is for all pupils to be independent learners.

Headteacher

Michelle Catterson BSc, PGCE, SpLD Level 3

BDA Board Trustee and APPG member for Dyslexia

Mission and Aim

We aim to help and support every pupil to achieve their full academic and co-curricular potential, teaching to each individual’s ability. Although literacy and numeracy are the main priorities on the curriculum, Moon Hall School also wants the pupil to have personal development to succeed as adults in the 'real world'. The school values aspiration, courage, resilience and ambition.

ISI report

“The quality of the pupils’ overall achievement and learning, including the EYFS, is excellent. The pupils are well educated in line with the school’s aims to give them the confidence and skills to access the curriculum. Pupils are successful in team and individual activities. These include winning art prizes in a local festival and recognition in a national poetry competition. Pupils play hockey at county level. All pupils overcome their difficulties, and their varied starting points, these results demonstrate that the pupils achieve extremely well at GCSE. The pupils’ attitude to their work and learning is usually extremely positive.”
