Job overview

A fabulous opportunity to lead a thriving PE department in a dynamic and forward-thinking school, which prides itself on its culture and ethos.

You will lead a PE department that boasts some incredible facilities, which include a brand-new (September 2021) state of the art Sports Hall, a gymnasium/fitness suite, swimming pool, Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) encompassing four competition grade netball courts built to England Netball standards, with a full-size basketball court and four tennis courts. These facilities are complemented by an extensive school field.

Participation in extra-curricular sport is high and uptake at KS4 is strong, with the school usually offering two groups of GCSE/BTEC (depending on the prior attainment of the cohort) each year.

A message from the Headteacher

Our school is defined by its culture and ethos – ‘the way things happen’. At The Wordsley School our culture and ethos is our unique selling point and together we strive to fulfil our mission, with a clear vision, motto and five key values that underpin our daily work. The Wordsley School truly is a special place to be with a kind and supportive atmosphere, encouraging all pupils to achieve their best and this is structured within our Mission, Vision and Values.

As Headteacher, it is my privilege to lead the school and I extend a very warm welcome to pupils, parents and our friends in the local community. At The Wordsley School our ethos is built on our motto BELIEVE ACHIEVE INSPIRE, which is underpinned by our five school values of curiosity, integrity, kindness, resilience and respect. Within our school you will find an excellent climate for learning permeating throughout our classrooms; a highly caring and supportive pastoral system, which is second to none; and a rich and diverse offering of extra-curricular activities for pupils to engage in outside the school day. Our growing school currently caters for around 900 pupils, each placed within one of our four houses: Doulton, Stuart, Tudor or Webb; ensuring that all our pupils are supported and challenged as individuals, within a relatively small ‘community within a community’, from the outset of Year 7.
