This is an opportunity for an outstanding teacher and visionary leader who will not settle for less than excellence to play a key role building on the excellent development work the PE Department have achieved in the past five years.

You will be responsible for the strategic leadership and development of academic PE teaching and ensure that Uppingham’s academic PE teaching is creative and inspirational.

You will also lead the quality assurance of educational provision by monitoring teaching and learning, observing lessons, evaluating the department’s performance and actively addressing the underperformance of pupils. 

You will need to be a strong, dynamic and inspirational character with unimpeachable subject knowledge. A track record of first rate teaching and the ability to inspire others is equally important.

Uppingham School is a mixed, Church of England independent secondary school with sixth form and boarding, located in Leicestershire. The secondary school, situated in Uppingham has approximately 791 students on record.

Uppingham School was founded in 1584, originally as a school for boys. In 1975 girls were admitted, and it became fully co-educational as of 2001. The majority of students attending the secondary school are boarders.

Work is generally presented neatly and pupils’ note-taking is effective. They develop good numeracy skills and their capacity to think critically is notable. Creative abilities are well developed and their exploration of ideas is particularly marked in their enrichment activities. Pupils’ study habits are good. In the lessons observed, pupils worked very well with each other, and also worked well independently. They enjoy their work and this stems in part from the good-natured atmosphere in lessons. Pupils use information and communications technology (ICT) proficiently.”
