We are looking to appoint a Head of Physical Education to provide professional leadership and management of this department and demonstrate the ability to motivate and inspire students and colleagues alike. The successful candidate will have excellent subject knowledge. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented teacher to join an outstanding school and work with students who are keen to learn.
PE is taught through Key Stages 3 to 5 and exam courses are offered in A Level and GCSE PE, with BTECs offered in Sport, Travel & Tourism and Health & Social Care. Teaching across all Key Stages, you will have overall responsibility for maintaining and improving on the excellent outcomes in examination courses. The ability to teach A Level PE is essential.
The successful candidate will be expected to fully commit to our extra-curricular programme, leading a range of activities and fixtures at lunchtime, after school and occasionally on weekends. They will also be required to lead and manage a number of large, whole-school events including Sports Day. Physical Education is highly regarded and is a central part of the school curriculum and an extensive extra-curricular programme contributes significantly to the life of the school.
The PE department currently has nine full-time and one part-time member of staff.
The school has a proven record of success at GCSE and A Level. In summer 2019, 86% of pupils gained grades 9-4 in five or more subjects with over 87% of students also gaining a grade 4 or above in English and Mathematics (67% gaining grade 5 or above). The average progress 8 score is 0.46 and the attainment 8 score is 58.6. Almost 40% of GCSE grades awarded were grade 7 and an incredible 7% were grade 9. At A Level, over 97 % of the 2018-19 cohort achieved A*-E with over 25% of the grades at A*A. The Average Points Score per pupil is 34.7, giving an average grade per candidate of a C+.
Children of staff who are permanently employed at Arden Academy are eligible for a ‘staff’ priority for main school and Sixth Form admissions (please see Admissions on our school website for full details).
