St Edmund’s School is seeking an inspirational leader to assume overall responsibility for the leadership, day-to- day running and the educational development of the Nursery and Pre-Prep.  Reporting to the Head of School, the post-holder will also be a key member of the 2-18 Executive Group which oversees the strategic development of the whole school.

The Pre-Prep is a happy, creative and inspiring place to learn and work consists of 5 classes across the 2-7 yr age range. Butterflies and Ladybirds are in our Woodland Nursery and we have Honey Bees, (Reception class) Crickets (Year 1) and Dragonflies. (Year2) We currently have 58 pupils.  It is our hope and expectation that all Pre-Prep pupils progress through to the Junior School for Year 3.

Main Responsibilities

  • Leadership of the Nursery and Pre-Prep team to ensure outstanding educational and pastoral provision is delivered for all pupils.
  • The production of the Pre-Prep School Development Plan. This outlines the School’s aims, and its short, medium and long-term objectives.  The Pre-Prep School Development Plan dovetails with those of the Junior and Senior Schools in achieving the overall St Edmund’s School strategy.
  • Contribute to 2-18 school strategy on the Executive Group.
  • Deliver a balanced, differentiated and stimulating curriculum and ensure through ongoing monitoring the highest possible standards of classroom practice.
  • Provide outstanding pastoral care for pupils and ongoing advice and support for parents.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of pupils and staff
  • Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Pre-Prep and, as such, maintain appropriate levels of training.
  • Play an active role in the marketing of the school and recruitment of pupils, to ensure that the Pre-Prep roll is full. This involves working with the Marketing department to promote the Pre-Prep School via its website, prospectus, annual review, local media and other means.
  • Work with the Bursar and Estates Team to ensure buildings, grounds and equipment are of the best possible standard.
  • Produce and manage the annual Nursery & Pre-Prep budgets in conjunction with the Bursar.
  • Monitor pupil academic progress by using effective tracking measures.  
  • Liaise with the SENCO to support the progress of pupils with specific needs, including Gifted and Talented pupils.
  • Work closely with parents and the Head of the Junior School on Pre-Prep to Junior School 7+ transfer issues.
  • Selection, appointment, training, guidance, performance management and motivation of staff.
  • Management and administration of holiday club including staffing and fees
  • Management of Early Years funding processes.
  • Produce reports for and represent the Nursery & Pre-Prep at Governors’ meetings.
  • Ensure the Nursery and Pre-Prep is fully compliant with all statutory requirements (EYFS, DfE, ISI etc)

St Edmund's School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school with c. 570 pupils from the ages of 3 to 18.  The Pre-Prep, Junior, and Senior Schools are on the same green field site and are closely integrated using the same Chapel, music and art facilities, dining hall, science laboratories and sports hall.   The broad age range enhances the mutually supportive, family atmosphere that defines the school, where every pupil and staff member is known and valued.
