Job overview

St. Paul's was founded in 1926 and was the first school in South America to receive accreditation from the UK government as a British School Oversees. Fully coeducational, with about 1,000 pupils, aged from 3 to 18, it is a school with history and tradition, but which embraces innovation, contemporary values and the latest in digital learning. Pauleans are members of a caring community and are supported in their learning by the best in pastoral care. It is our aim to discover the passion and talents of every pupil, and create the right environment to develop these. Pupils leave us confident, assured and well prepared for an exciting life, and a multitude of opportunities, often at top universities both in Brazil and abroad. Pauleans are many things, but most of all they are themselves. It is this which prepares them for the unknown and an exciting life in the world beyond school.

We are a world-class school, and an international member of HMC and IAPS, and a member of COBIS and the LAHC. We are proud of our local, national and international reputation and we constantly strive to improve the opportunities for our pupils and staff. Our recent BSO inspection judged us as a leading British School overseas, and you can download the report http://www.stpauls.br/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/bso-report-st-pauls-sao-paulo-30.11.2015-final-9.pdf  from our website.

Constantly seeking to improve our facilities, the school has undertaken an almost continuous programme of building works over the past 20 years as it has gradually grown; this includes extensive refurbishment and extension of the original school building, the creation of a sixth form centre and library and in August 2014 we opened our multimillion real underground state of the art sports centre. In February 2016 we inaugurated our new academic centre, which houses a learning resources suite, music and arts centre, music recording facilities, and 10 modern science laboratories. This exceptional facility places teaching and learning at the heart of the school.

Following the promotion of the current post holder to be head of an independent Primary School in Shanghai, we seek a gifted, energetic, innovative and ambitious educator and leader to take our Prep School forward in the next stage of its development. We are a highly successful school, with a large and vibrant Prep School community which is a crucial part of the success and global reputation of St. Paul's School. The new post holder will inherit a committed, hard-working and able staff body, a willing, supportive and engaged parent community and a learning focused, energetic and vibrant population of nearly 400 children, who are eager to learn and who love their learning!

The new post holder will be able to embrace and extend the already excellent work done in our Prep School in order to prepare the pupils for their next steps.

A full commitment to the life of the school is expected, as is a desire to pursue your own professional development, as well as an aspiration to help the Prep School continue to develop and extend its reputation for excellence. The school is renowned for its excellence in continuing professional development for all staff and this is an area of real strength.

This post requires excellence as a leader; the successful candidate must be a Primary years' education specialist. Experience and qualifications in British international education would be an advantage. We seek a collaborative and energetic leader to join our team: someone with vision and the skills needed to take us forward.

The head of the Prep School is a member of the Strategic Leadership Group of the school and as such contributes to whole school strategic development and improvement, working with the governing body and other senior leaders.

For expatriate staff the package is a two-year (renewable) contract that includes:

  • return flights (at the start and end of each contract)
  •  luggage allowances (outbound and return)
  • visa expenses
  • pension scheme

St. Paul’s was the first British School to be established in São Paulo (Brazil) and continues to offer an Anglo-Brazilian curriculum, embracing the best of both cultures. As an all-through (ages 3-18) co-educational school, offering the IGCSE and IB courses to pupils, we are affiliated to a global network of top UK Schools through our membership of HMC (Head’s Conference) and COBIS (Council of British International Schools). Almost 100 years old, we draw on our proud heritage as the first British school in Latin America to be recognised as a British School Overseas (BSO) by the UK government. Yet, we look forward with creativity and confidence.

At St. Paul’s we always strive to be our better selves. We have the courage of our convictions, essential values, freedom to imagine and create. This is achieved through our high quality British and Brazilian holistic education which drives the personal and academic development of pupils, within a framework of a caring, inclusive and united community. Our commitment to broad educational experiences opens many opportunities for pupils who go on to leading universities in the United Kingdom, America and Brazil.
