An exceptional opportunity has arisen at One of South America’s leading School’s for an outstanding, inspirational and charismatic leader to further enhance our excellent reputation. The school is looking to fill the position of Head of Primary due to the retirement of Mrs. Rene Sinclair by July/August 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The School

Craighouse School is a Chilean-British, private, PK-12 coeducational school located in a suburb of Santiago, Chile. The new purpose built Campus, inaugurated in March 2013, with excellent facilities is situated in the foothills of the Andes and must have some of the best vistas of any school in the world. We firmly believe in the benefits of the International Baccalaureate programme and therefore Craighouse School is an IB Continuum School with all three programmes, PYP, MYP and DP. Our family oriented Educational Project fully integrates the academic and formative areas so that each pupil develops her/his full potential as a person.

The Post

Head of Primary (3yrs to 10yrs) to join our senior leadership team for July/August 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • To assist the Head teacher in school self-review, evaluation and quality assurance in the effective planning and management of school resources to secure improvements.
  • To play a significant role in setting aims and objectives for the Primary Section while participating in the development of the School Strategic Plan together with the Head teacher and other senior staff.
  • To enhance the already developed atmosphere of concern and support for all children in the Section
  • To lead and support the development of the teaching of English throughout the Section
  • To coordinate all aspects of the day-to day administration and organisation of the Primary Section.
  • To assist the Academic Director in raising the quality of teaching and learning by monitoring pupils’ work and teachers’ planning and teaching.
  • To assist the Academic Director in raising the quality of teaching and learning by making a significant contribution to the school’s continuing professional development programme, delivering CPD and working with individuals and teams in a variety of professional development activities.
  • To inspire and motivate staff and pupils taking a leading role in maintaining the highest standards of teaching and learning both in the academic and formative areas.
  • To provide an excellent role model for all members of staff and for pupils in all aspects of school life.
  • To liaise with our parent body by leading various parent support groups.

Personal qualities

  • Applicants will have a degree with a teaching qualification; further qualifications such as Masters, NPQH are desirable. Applicants will have a proven track record in a leadership post and have experience of the IB programmes. Applicants will be fluent English speakers. An understanding of Spanish is desirable. In addition, the role will require a leader who has excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, outstanding understanding of teaching and learning in all aspects of child development and the ability to develop and sustain high educational standards. You will be an excellent communicator who enjoys positive relationships with colleagues, pupils, parents and be comfortable with technology and in leading change. Promote all aspects of social service, ecological and environmental awareness. Be a creative and committed team player with empathy, drive, energy and passion and who has a good sense of humor and a willingness to participate fully in all aspects of school life.
