Baku Talents Education Complex (BTEC) is recruiting a Head of Primary (Key Stage 2) to join our school for an August 21st 2017 start.

Applicants must be UK qualified teachers with QTS or equivalent, with both teaching and management experience from British schools.

The School

Established in 2013, BTEC is a new, non-profit education initiative sponsored by Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company, SOCAR. From small beginnings on a site west of central Baku, the school moved to a purpose-built site in Neftchiler, the eastern part of the city in September 2014, which is close to the main highway to the airport. The buildings are spacious and there is room for further expansion in the future. In addition to classrooms, there are well equipped laboratories, two computer laboratories, facilities for Art and Music, library, fully equipped theatre, indoor six-lane swimming pool, indoor sports hall and a large fitness room with the latest equipment, and a planetarium.

At present, the school has pupils from Nursery through to Year 11, and a year 12 class (first year of A-level) will open in September 2017. Thereafter, year 13 will open in September 2018 and so forth. Pupils follow the curriculum of England and Wales, but with focus on an international outlook. Those whose nationality is Azerbaijani (over 80% of the current roll) must also fulfil the requirements of the national government regarding the study of their country’s culture and language. The maximum class size is 18 pupils. The international lead teacher has a responsibility to ensure that the local teacher is fully involved, contributing his or her expertise on an equal basis.

The Package

  • Salary - tax free: 48 000 USD.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be UK (or comparable) qualified teachers with a relevant UK teaching qualification and QTS (or equivalent), and experience teaching and managing in British schools.

The right candidate will:

  • lead and manage the day-to-day operation of Key Stage 2
  • be responsible for the academic progress and welfare of pupils in Key Stage 2
  • maintain and develop effective relationships with Key Stage 2 parents
  • monitor, evaluate and review the effects of policies, priorities and targets of the school
  • provide consistent and continuous school-wide focus on each student’s achievement
  • create and develop a Section in which all members of staff recognise that they are accountable for the success of the school
  • ensure that parents and pupils are well-informed about the curriculum, attainment and progress
  • manage, monitor and review the range, quality, quantity & use of resources
  • implement strategies which secure high standards of behaviour and attendance
  • coordinate teacher cover
  • implement and sustain effective systems for the management of staff performance, incorporating appraisal and targets for teachers, including targets for pupils’ achievement
  • plan, allocate, support and evaluate work undertaken by groups, teams and individuals, ensuring clear delegation of tasks and devolution of responsibilities
  • report to the Principal on all matters pertaining to Key Stage 2
  • lead and manage the Key Stage 2 staff
  • line manage the Head of Year 3, Head of Year 4, Head of Year 5 and Head of Year 6 with a particular emphasis on academic matters;
  • be responsible for the effective performance of all Key Stage 2 teachers and teaching assistants
  • lead the teaching staff in the delivery of outstanding academic achievement in line with BTEC’s goals
  • oversee the implementation and development of the Key Stage 2 curriculum
  • oversee the management of pupil assessment and reporting systems
  • maintain and update the Key Stage 2 policies and procedures as required to comply with BTEC and external accreditation bodies’ requirements
  • coordinate the implementation of BTEC’s health and safety policies
  • manage teaching staff recruitment, induction, appraisal and professional development within Key Stage 2
  • demonstrate a disposition to spend the required hours per week if necessary to comply with the workload, outside the normal working hours (8.00 am – 4.00 pm)

As we cater to the needs of children from nearly 20 different countries, BTEC has an international approach to teaching. We have qualified teachers with a wide international experience and various cultural backgrounds. Our teaching community currently consists of more than 80 members of staff from all five continents.

   The School

   Azerbaijan British College (ABC) is an independent, secular, coeducational, British-style through-school located in the beautiful capital city Baku, on the shore of the Caspian Sea.

   Established in 2013, ABC is a new, non-profit education initiative sponsored by Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company, SOCAR.  

   In addition to classrooms, there are well-equipped laboratories, computer laboratories, facilities for Art and Music, a library, fully equipped theatre, a six-lane indoor swimming pool, an indoor sports hall and a large fitness room with the latest equipment.

At present, the school has pupils from Nursery through to Year 13. Pupils follow the curriculum of England and Wales, but those whose nationality is Azerbaijani (over 80% of the current roll) must also fulfill the requirements of the national government regarding the study of their country’s culture and language.

The maximum class size is 18 pupils and almost all classes are 90-95% full. In our kindergarten we have a total of three (3) teachers and teaching assistants in each class, whereas in primary, we have one teacher and one teaching assistant, in order to provide better attention to all students’ individual needs when necessary. In secondary we generally have one teacher per class only, but we frequently split the classes into smaller groups for some of the subjects, like mathematics, physics or English.

 

Accreditation & Inspections

ABC is accredited by the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan. We are also a fully accredited school by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the British Council of International Schools (COBIS). We are licensed to offer a range of qualifications from two largest International Examination Boards, Cambridge International Assessment (CIA) and Edexcel.

ABC is also an invited member of the Black Sea Schools Group (BSS), which is an association of  British accredited schools in our region.  BSS organise meetings, competitions and opportunities to share best practice between the regions top accredited schools.
