Job overview

We wish to appoint an inspirational leader to join our school as Head of Primary from April 2019.

As Head of Primary you will have responsibility for the leadership and management of our primary phase, working closely with the Headteacher in shaping our strategic vision. You will be an integral member of the school’s Headship Team and supported in your role by our talented and enthusiastic primary team.

The successful candidate will have established a track record of securing the best possible learning outcomes (with respect to attainment and progress) of all learners, be that at EYFS, KS1 or KS2. You will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with the proven ability to lead and influence others to achieve exceptional performance, holding them accountable to the highest expectations with respect to their own practice and the learning of the children in their care.

Prendergast Vale School is a small all-through school providing high quality education from nursery to Year 11 that aims to transform the lives of all the children who attend the school.  By keeping the school small, we have created a community of pupils and teachers where no pupil is left behind, which has enabled us to create an environment in which pupils want to learn, achieve and behave well.

This is an exciting time to join our school following our ‘Good’ judgement Ofsted in February 2018. The successful candidate will be part of a transformative staff team committed to outstanding provision and outcomes for all students.  The school benefits from being part of the Leathersellers’ Federation of Schools.

Being part of a successful Federation of Schools, located in easy travelling distance of each other, enables the schools to support each other and share best practice and resources. It also enables the Federation to offer staff the opportunity to develop their career as we are committed to developing and promoting from within wherever possible.

We offer a comprehensive and supportive induction programme for all new staff.  You will also have access to a rich and varied CPD programme within the school and across the Federation.

Visits to the school are welcome, please contact Tara McGoldrick, PA to Headteacher via email T.McGoldrick@prendergast-vale.com   or telephone 020 8297 3540 ext: 613001 to arrange.

About Prendergast Vale School

Welcome to Prendergast Vale School, an all-through school in the heart of Lewisham for children from the ages of 3 to 16.  We are a very special community; as our school motto says ‘in perpetuum discimus’ - we are forever learning, with academic and personal excellence for all and developing creativity at the heart of our practices. We believe all our pupils can achieve success in life by working hard and being kind.

Our subject specialists design engaging and high-quality curricula that enable our pupils to reach their academic potential and develop a thirst for learning. As a result, they will become confident, resourceful and independent learners who can pursue their ambitions and attend university if they wish.  Not only should students have well regarded qualifications when they leave school but they will also acquire character traits that will enable them to be successful in life. Traits such as optimism, resilience and confidence are developed throughout all subjects and through extra curricular activities. We encourage pupils to value their education at Prendergast Vale and we equip them to achieve and excel in life after school. They leave our care as responsible, motivated young adults who are eager to make positive contributions to society.

Prendergast Vale is a small school within a big community. As a member of the Leathersellers’ Federation of Schools, we are stronger together. The Leathersellers’ Federation of schools is made up of a group of three secondary and two primary schools as well as Prendergast 6th Form.  We are very fortunate to be part of the Federation and receive a lot of support from the Leathersellers’ Company, which helps our pupils succeed.
