Job overview

Achieving Excellence where Every Child Matters

Do you share our vision for every child in our school?

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the further growth and development of our primary school as Head of Primary. We are a thriving British International School in Madrid with a growing roll and are looking for a new Head of School to maintain and further develop our provision and reputation. The successful candidate will be an outstanding, learning focused practitioner, with a proven track record in primary school leadership, either in an International or UK-based setting. The role involves leading and managing a committed group of primary and early years staff to ensure that the successful outcomes our children currently enjoy continue to be celebrated and enhanced further. We are a two-form entry school in our Early Years and three-form entry in our primary school and there are currently just over 400 children on roll. Madrid is a very competitive international schools market and we have worked hard to grow and enhance our reputation in this environment. The new Head of Primary would be tasked with maintaining the successful development of the primary school, working alongside the Headteacher and Head of Secondary in defining the strategic vision for the school and its communication to our wider community. Our primary school follows a modified English National Curriculum, with a thematic approach to learning and we are considering transitioning to the IPC in the next stage of our development. Knowledge and experience with the IPC would therefore be advantageous.

As the leader of our growing primary team, you would be expected to be dynamic and collaborative, with high expectations of both staff and children. We are looking for someone who can inspire, challenge and engage our staff team and who takes pride in developing positive working relationships within the workplace. A commitment to educating the whole child, emphasis on high levels of pastoral care and an inclusive approach to education will be of the utmost importance as we make the final appointment. The ability to adapt quickly to new situations, with a problem solving mindset is something we as a school value very highly. As our students come to us from a range of different backgrounds and with varying needs, an interest in raising attainment across all ability levels is imperative.

St George Madrid is a well established British International School within the St George Group of Schools in Spain and is located in a prime educational zone to the North of the capital. The school is an all-through school, and is based on a single site with children aged from 20 months to 18 years. We follow an adapted English National Curriculum across our primary and secondary schools, leading to examination at IGCSE and IB Diploma.

As an international school we expect all of our staff to commit to the wider life of the school, through our after-school programme, as well as school events and activities going on throughout the year and the Head of Primary is a key figure-head in ensuring the ongoing success of such events and programmes.

If you are committed to child centred education, with a deep rooted desire to help every child reach their potential and are interested in helping shape the future development of an international school we would be delighted to hear from you. You can find out more about our schools by visiting our website https://stgeorgeinternational.es/madrid/.

Initial interviews will be held online with a face to face for shortlisted candidates in Madrid or London. Please upload a current CV with your application. The closing date for applications is Friday 24th March.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students in our care and expects all applicants to share this commitment. We follow safe recruitment practice and appointments are subject to an interview, satisfactory references, a good track record of health and attendance, as well as criminal record checks.
