Job overview

Head of Primary: Start Date 01/08/2023

We are seeking an experienced, vocational Head of Primary with a proven track record of successful UK, PYP and international teaching and leadership experience.

Our new Head of Primary will enjoy working collaboratively with fellow innovative and creative leaders and teachers, who are committed to offering a world class, student-centred, education to a diverse and caring community of international students at the British School in Lomé, Togo, West Africa.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning themselves. They will be passionate about inspiring and challenging all our students to achieve more than they think possible, through the provision of an engaging learning program of curricular and extracurricular activities.

The British School of Lomé is located in a very safe, leafy area of the capital city of Togo about 20 minutes’ drive from the sea. The school is well-established and enjoys an excellent reputation in Togo, in West Africa and globally. BSL has always been an inclusive school and our motto is ‘Endeavour is all.’

Our academic and behavioural expectations are high, and we encourage all students to give their best in all areas of school life. We see BSL not only as ‘The Gateway to University’, but also as The Gateway to a rich and rewarding future life in all its aspects, and the foundations for this are built in our expanding Primary School.

The Primary school currently offers the UK curriculum and is in the process of embedding the PYP approaches to teaching and learning with the goal of becoming a PYP accredited Primary School. The school is in the Candidacy Phase of the process which is being led by our experienced PYP Coordinator.

BSL is an affiliate member of the prestigious Round Square group of schools and in the Primary section our young learners strengthen their understanding of local and global issues through learning about the Round Square Discovery Heroes and by participating in service projects.

Further information about the school and the role are included in the attachments.
