Nestled between the Hajar mountains and the clear blue waters of the Arabian Gulf, RAK Academy Family of Schools is based in Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost Emirate of the UAE. Just one hour’s drive from Dubai International Airport, the Academy provides UK and IB education to over 3500 students from 88 nationalities across its 5 schools, each with its own unique character.
We are seeking a dynamic Head of School for the British School Hamra (BSH), opened in August 2018. This is an exciting time to join as rolls have grown rapidly to an anticipated 550 students next year. The school is situated to the south of the emirate in the multi-cultural area of Al Hamra, with a growing roll of some 38 different nationalities.
Over the past decade the Academy schools have grown markedly, in both student numbers and in reputation for raising academic achievement levels; certainly the international school of choice in the Emirate. We now seek a charismatic leader who wishes to be part of a professionally dynamic, supportive and forward thinking learning community, in a safe, family-friendly setting and a naturally beautiful part of the world.
The RAK Academy Family of Schools is fully accredited with the International Baccalaureate (IBO), Council of International Schools (CIS), British Schools Overseas (BSO) and a member of British Schools of the Middle East (BSME). It is also inspected by the UAE Ministry of Education.
The successful candidate must:
-Hold a first degree plus a post-graduate qualification in education (i.e. PGCE/GTP), with QTS.
-Hold NPQH or evidence of further management professional development.
-Have a proven track record of judging excellent classroom and pedagogical practice.
-Have a good ability to develop IT systems to support teaching and learning.
-Be able to engage, motivate and support children, staff and parents.
-Be a reflective practitioner with the ability to think creatively and innovate.
-Be a positive and enthusiastic leader.
-Be a positive role model in terms of professional expertise and attitude
-Most importantly of all, fully subscribe to the maxim that “all complex decision-making be based on what constitutes best practice for the child”.
The school offers a competitive international salary and benefits package, comparable to other international schools in the region. This would include a tax-free salary (incorporating accommodation provision), annual travel allowance for the family, up to two free child school places, family medical cover, visas, access to professional development opportunities and HR support. A gratuity is also payable upon completion of each contract.
