Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly committed, passionate teacher to further develop and deliver our unique and enriching PSHE and RSE programme. PSHE and RSE are central to the ethos of the school and we are looking to appoint a strong practitioner with a minimum of three years’ experience teaching PSHE in the secondary sector. The successful candidate will have up to date knowledge of PSHE and RSE developments for pupils aged 11-18. They will be empathetic, enthusiastic and capable of inspiring confidence in pupils, parents and colleagues.
The PSHE and RSE programme is central to all aspects of school life at St Mary’s Calne - its thinking, planning, teaching and organisation – and as such has a positive influence on girls’ learning and relationships throughout the whole school community. Provision of PSHE and RSE at St Mary’s Calne is explicitly designed to contribute to the process of growing up and the preparation of girls for responsibility in adult life, by promoting Fundamental British Values and by passing on those enduring, universal values which help to nurture pupils' integrity and autonomy so that they become responsible and caring citizens capable of contributing to the development of a just society.
The study of PSHE and RSE at St Mary’s promotes the general progress and wellbeing of individual pupils and the community of pupils, and reflects the values and ethos of the School. The successful candidate will be committed to high academic standards and have a full appreciation of the importance of PSHE and RSE. They will have the drive and creative flair to ensure that our programme is at the heart of our pastoral vision and ethos.

• Qualified Teacher Status.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with very good written and spoken English.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills; competency in the use of ICT for administration and teaching purposes.
• An understanding of the expectations, ethos and aims of a full boarding school.
• Committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of children and young people.

About St Mary's Calne
St Mary’s Calne is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18, a happy, purposeful and flourishing community of around 360 pupils with a 80% to 20% boarding to day ratio.
Founded in 1873, the school has been providing an outstanding education for girls for 150 years, and our alumnae have prominent positions in every profession from the law, politics and medicine to the arts, drama and sport. There is a strong tradition of the core academic subjects and strength in science and mathematics, as well as modern languages, arts and humanities.
Our Sixth Form is flourishing and highly successful, with over 120 girls. The girls benefit from exceptional careers advice and work hard to achieve their goals. Their academic results are outstanding and the girls go on to study at top UK and American universities; the striking range of courses they embark upon shows the wealth of choice available to our pupils. Many of the Sixth Form also undertake extensive pieces of independent research in the form of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), with 100% achieving A*s last year.
