We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Head of Psychology who has the ability to teach and coordinate Psychology up to A Level and work collaboratively within the popular Social Sciences department. There are also opportunities to develop into the wider leadership of the Social Sciences department for the right candidate.


The Social Science department contains a wealth of subject specialists and is a passionate, respected and supportive department. The Social Science department is a growing department and contains a real variety of subjects which are popular throughout our students’ education (Psychology, Religious Studies, PSHE, Sociology, Health and Social Care, Criminology and Citizenship) and Psychology is offered both at GCSE and A Level with enthusiastic uptake in both key stages (AQA).


We are looking to appoint someone who can lead by example, is confident that they deliver high quality lessons and is enthusiastic about Psychology and is able to inspire others. The successful candidate will be able to feed into the wider character of our department and the ability to teach and possibly lead other subjects within our Social Science department would be advantageous. There are also opportunities to develop into the wider leadership of the Social Sciences department for the right candidate.


Waingels is a very successful 11 to 18 Comprehensive school serving its local community and staff well-being is very important to us and is integral in everything we do. • A school that lives out it’s values of Kindness, Resilience, Respect and Pride with students, parents, the community and staff

• All staff tasks and new policies are workload assessed with staff well-being and workload in mind

• Staff are collaborated with on current and proposed new policies and practices

• Our feedback policy recognises the need for students to be given direct feedback in a way that does not overburden staff with unnecessary maintenance marking

• Reporting and data entry is kept to a minimal to avoid unnecessary burden

• Printing and photocopying facilities available in all staff areas and a dedicated reprographics technician and room

• Performance Management objectives based on staff development needs 

• After-school meetings are kept to a minimum with one staff briefing and a maximum of 1 meeting per week. After-school meetings are not scheduled during weeks where there are Parent Consultation Meetings or Open Evenings 

• A reduced school day for students to allow staff to prepare for Parent Consultation Meetings. These are therefore held in the late afternoon rather than late evenings

• Our staff absence policy is generous for example with requests to go to our children’s sports days, graduation sand loved ones’ funerals 

• Breakfast/lunch provided for staff on INSET days

• Disaggregated INSET days allocated to afternoon twilight sessions across the academic year

• CPD is available for all staff at all levels including a thriving internal CPD program 

• Staff appreciation postcards nominated by peers are displayed on our staff appreciation noticeboard

• Termly staff tea organised by peers

• Staff celebration events such as our Summer BBQ

• A well-being team of volunteers meet once a half-term to raise issues and seek solutions; a free lunch is provided. They also organise a once a month social for staff to informally get together

• Opportunities for staff to organise and attend trips all around the world

• Half-termly staff appreciation cards distributed as nominated by students

• Dedicated staff kitchen/informal social space and formal workspaces in all school zones

• Working in a modern, light and purposeful environment with state of the art technology and equipment
