Job overview

Salary: CLS Teaching Pay Scale 2022/23 (£35,490 to £58,210 - plus two progression points to £60,110 62,060), plus Head of Department allowance (and timetable allocation).

An outstanding teacher of Religion & Philosophy is required to join CLS as Head of Department for January 2024. The School has a long-standing record of high academic achievement (96.6% of A-level and Pre-U entries gained A* to B/D1-M1 grades in 2022). There is also much happening in terms of co-curricular activities, and all staff are expected to be fully involved in School life.

The post will involve teaching Religion & Philosophy to years 6-13. Experience in a position of responsibility to date in their present school is advantageous and this is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in Middle Leadership and, ultimately, beyond. The ideal candidate will have a clear vision for teaching and learning in R&P and an ability to inspire others to fulfil their potential. They will be an outstanding classroom practitioner, able to lead by example.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the R&P Department, and taking responsibility for the teaching, progress and attainment of all pupils from Old Grammar (Y6) to Senior Sixth. There are regularly two sets in Sixth Form and significant numbers of pupils go on to high-tariff universities to read Philosophy and other associated courses such as Theology and PPE. There is a rich supra-curricular programme as well, which is overseen by the Head of Department, including competitions and trips.

We aspire to attract a staff that matches the social and cultural diversity of the CLS community. We welcome applications from anyone with the relevant skills and abilities, and particularly from those who may not previously have thought of applying to a school such as ours. We use CV Minder to anonymise applications.
