The Directors of St Mary’s College are looking to appoint an experienced, motivated and inspirational Head of Religious Education to lead this core curriculum area and join our outstanding school. We are seeking an excellent classroom practitioner with proven leadership skills to lead our highly successful Religious Education department to the highest level. The successful applicant will be joining a vibrant and high performing team in an outstanding 11 – 19 school. As a national Teaching School Hub and the lead school in a developing Trust, this is a particularly exciting time for the College. Religious Education has been one of the highest performing subjects across the school over many years. The Head of Religious Education takes responsibility for the development of the curriculum, the monitoring of student progress and teaching and learning within the subject alongside being a key figure in leading and upholding the Catholic Life and ethos across the school. The candidate should be a practising Catholic and have the ability to teach and contribute to the KS5 curriculum. We have a proud track record of professional development and investing in our staff. The previous 3 Heads of Religious Education have gone to be Vice Principals or higher in the organisation.

In our most recent OFSTED inspection (October 2023), St Mary’s College was judged as OUTSTANDING in all areas, with the inspectors stating: ‘St Mary’s College is a highly ambitious school,’ with this ambition evident, ‘in all areas of the curriculum’.

St Mary’s College embodies Christ at the centre of everything we do; the most recent Diocesan Inspection (May 2022) judged the College to be outstanding in all areas. They inspectors stated, “The RE Department is a beacon of excellence within the school.”

St Mary’s College was awarded the World Class Schools Quality Mark in 2017 which was redesignated in 2023 in perpetuity.

St Mary’s College and St Cuthbert’s Roman Catholic Academy Trust are immensely proud of all our achievements, not least:

St Mary's College is a Catholic Secondary School and Sixth Form situated in the city of Hull.

St Mary's College continues to go from strength to strength, offering our students and the community we serve, top quality educational provision, outstanding facilities and a commitment to the highest of standards.

The school was judged to be 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in 2010 and continues to hold this judgement to date.

In 2023 we were awarded World Class School status for the third time showing we have moved beyond 'outstanding' and have continued to improve student progress, aspiration and achievement to such an extent that our standards rival the best schools internationally. The school’s mission statement is educate students spiritually, morally, physically and academically to make them well-rounded human beings. St Mary’s College believes every student has the right to a full and exciting education. The school curriculum is rooted in the faith, practice and moral teaching of the Roman Catholic Church.

St Mary’s College's sporting achievements have set it apart from other schools and its facilities have helped many pupils get involved with sports. Various extracurricular activities are also offered to pupils, from Budding Entrepreneur club to Backstage club. St Mary’s status as an International School has helped it foster a cultural and community feel. From the Green Generation project with Slovenia to an ICT project with Kenya and Nigeria, international schemes help to teach pupils about other cultures.
