Job overview

An experienced, well qualified and enthusiastic Head of Religious Studies is required for September 2017 to join this oversubscribed 11-19 mixed academy of 1274 pupils in a pleasant and accessible area of west London.

RS is taught as a separate subject in KS3 where there are units on RS skills, an Introduction to religion and how religion provides answers to fundamental questions. KS3 includes work on the major world faiths.

KS4 begins in year 9 where all pupils take GCSE Religious Studies AQA syllabus A. Units on Christianity, Islam, moral issues and philosophy of religion are studied.

An ability to teach Philosophy of religion and ethics at A level is vital (AQA Linear Course Philosophy and Ethics). RS is a popular A level choice and examination results place us in the top 10% (ALPS) of schools last year.

There are currently two full-time RS teachers and another two staff with specialist RS qualifications teaching KS 3, 4 and 5.

The department has grown and strengthened over the past few years and the post provides an exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate to develop the department further.

The post also includes whole school responsibility, working with Senior Leaders, for SMSC.

Chiswick School is a mixed 11-18 school that is truly comprehensive in its nature.

Our vision is that we do whatever it takes to ensure every student achieves their full potential. Over the last year we have made rapid progress in our classrooms and we are delighted that Ofsted has recognised how far we have come. Over the next four years we are aiming to become one of the finest schools in London providing students with exceptional opportunities in and out of the classroom.

Chiswick School is full of adults who care deeply about children and we pride ourselves on the positive relationships we build with students. We are a family which includes parents and carers, teachers, other school staff and the community; with the child placed firmly at the centre of all that we do and the decisions that we take.

Our teaching and support colleagues are our most valuable resource and we work hard to provide a balanced and enjoyable working environment.  A new Wellbeing Strategy is being implemented to enhance what we are already doing to support our staff.

"Staff praise leaders for the improvements that have been made. They said that leaders take their workload and well-being seriously. Staff morale is high. They are committed to playing their part in the continued improvement of the school."  - Ofsted, January 2020

Laura Ellener
Headteacher
