Head of School

Located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, St. Michaels University School is a coed boarding and day school with a global reputation for academic excellence. Students from all over the world are challenged and inspired in an environment of extraordinary faculty, students, programming and facilities. Committed to pursuing academic excellence in an environment where the character and self also grow, the School’s mission shapes all its endeavours:

Our school seeks the excellence in all of us, with passion and compassion. We are a community shaped by the pursuit of truth and goodness, providing outstanding preparation for higher learning and for life.

Just as the School recruits students and faculty with intelligence, passion and commitment, SMUS is seeking a new Head of School who can expand on the transformational work of its current long-serving Head and lead the School into the next chapter of its vision: to learn, to lead, to serve; discovering the promise in our selves and the world.

The next Head of School will be a strong, passionate and visionary educational leader, with a successful track record as a senior-level executive in an educational setting, strong business skills, and experience in community engagement and fundraising. In addition to having the appropriate academic credentials, he or she will be savvy about emerging trends in education and the impact of technology on learning, as well as the opportunities and challenges that these trends present. The Head will also understand the complexity of developing the whole student within a balanced program that includes arts, athletics, academics, and other leadership experiences.

Reporting to the Board of Governors, supported by a strong and passionate management team, and leading more than 450 dedicated faculty and staff, the Head of School will be an outstanding leader, communicator and collaborator, and will be visible and engaged with all stakeholders in the diverse SMUS community and beyond. The School has ambitious future projects that are now in the planning stages, with respect to both educational programming and physical facilities, and the Head will lead SMUS in this next important chapter of the School’s future.

Consideration of candidates will begin immediately, and the new Head of School will take office in the summer of 2017 or at a mutually agreed date. Applications and nominations may be directed in confidence to the address below. For more information about St. Michaels University School, visit www.smus.ca.
