Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School offers an exceptional opportunity for a gifted and successful leader: the position of Head of School.

Strathcona Tweedsmuir School (STS) is a premier co educational day school for high-achieving students that traces its roots back over 100 years. STS develops well-balanced students for a life of purpose by inspiring excellence in scholarship, leadership and character. The School enrols approximately 700 students in small class sizes from Kindergarten to university entrance. In addition to a strong academic programme, STS offers outstanding co-curricular activities in the arts, outdoor education, speech and debate, and athletics, as well as a global perspective through the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) K-12 and Round Square Programmes.

The exceptionally well equipped 90 hectare campus is set in a spectacular location with the foothills of the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop. Located 9 kilometres south of Calgary, the STS property includes a residence for the Head of School. The campus is endowed with state of the art library, science laboratories, theatre and athletic facilities. As a result of a very successful capital campaign, a new 6,000 square meter building with innovative teaching and learning spaces, a new elementary school, a fine arts facility and makerspaces will be available for use in fall 2017. The Head reports to the School’s Board of Governors and is responsible for
advising on policy and governance issues, for developing a shared vision of the School’s future and for the successful collegial implementation of all plans. Establishing and maintaining positive relationships within the School and the broader community are an important part of the Head’s role. Reporting to the Head is a very strong senior team of 12 who lead the junior, middle and senior schools, advancement, finance and administration and other activities of the School.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader who has enjoyed success in past educational leadership roles. A positive, proactive style, excellent academic credentials, exceptional team building and communication skills, rapport with students, and diplomacy in dealing with all stakeholders are all qualities required in the Head. It is expected that the Head will embrace the School’s holistic approach to education that encourages creative interests and physical activity, while instilling a sense of social responsibility in its students.

The search committee will begin reviewing applications immediately and will
continue until the position is filled. The successful candidate will be expected
