About Ivy Lane Primary School

Ivy Lane is a primary school with approximately 300 pupils. It is near the centre of Chippenham, a historic market town in North Wiltshire.

Success for Ivy Lane School is based on its vision "Learning for Life", with a focus on life skills needed for all pupils to lead happy, responsible lives. We continue to improve the working environment of all learners, making the school vibrant and exciting.

Our aims, values and successes

• The last three years have shown significant improvement in the levels of achievement in the core areas of Maths, English and Science at the end of KS2, with results exceeding those of local schools and schools nationally;

• We have evidence to prove our progress through individual pupil tracking, lesson observations, on-going teacher assessments and pupil self-assessment. We believe that pupils who have ownership of their learning, target setting and assessment, have increased levels of motivation and a greater determination to do well;

• We use various strategies to support social awareness: counselling, social skills training, pupil conferencing, circle time to share feelings with a peer group. These programmes are effective due to the close support from experienced Teaching Assistants.

• We strongly believe in involving parents, carers and the community in the life of the school. Parents are encouraged to help in classes, and black and ethnic minority groups are encouraged to share their heritage. Through a committed Parents / Friends Association, parents are encouraged to support fund-raising events, and regular open discussion forums and workshop evenings keep parents fully informed of curriculum opportunities;

• Extra curricular opportunities include a large number of after-school clubs such as gardening, country dancing, ICT and inter-school sports / art activties. There are drama opportunities with two main productions per year performed to audiences including parents, other pupils and local nurseries. The school orchestra and school choir give several concerts per year for parents..

• In 2007, the school was accredited with the Healthy Schools Award and prides itself, in collaboration with ABM Catering, in offering children healthy meals at a very reasonable price. Please click HERE to get access to the school menus and themed lunches.
